It would be really cool to be a ship’s captain in 600 BC in the Mediterranean

Everything would be so much of an adventure and every day would be something new.
The Mediterranean hadn’t been sterilized yet into the cookie cutter symmetry you would find even by 400 BC or 300 BC.
But, this is the start of the Great colonization across the black and Mediterranean seas. You see a village in the distance off some dark shore? It could be anyone. It could be Phoenicians. It could be Greeks, it could be Kemetics. And their society could be more outlandish than anything you could imagine. With little input from their original homes, you’d get all sorts of crazy cults and weird governments and stuff.
As a ships captain, you were probably a bit of a pirate as everyone was pretty much a bit of a pirate at this time. You probably were also a merchant. And you’d have more freedom to go where you wanted more so than anyone else alive at the time.
Hell, some phonecians supposedly traveled to England

Youd get kidnapped, human trafficked into slavery in the bowels of Babylon

Why do you think it would be smelly? People swam, a lot.
Also, prostitution was pretty legal everywhere. I think they’d be fine sexual health wise

You know, most people throughout history have managed to not get the plague

Everything was smelly until a little more than 100 years ago.

Wouldn’t Medusa or some harpies try to kill you? Too dangerous for Bob!

It's fun to dream about being a big, important ship captain, but eventually you've got to grow up, set aside the dream, and get a real job... like personal assistant to Ed Orgeron.

Except we know people flocked to be rowers. Also, most ships had to be pulled onto land every night to let the ships dry out. So you’re spending plenty of time on land

I’d rather be a PA then my current job. I keep writing long ranting threads about it and not posting it because no one cares. So I try to post positive stuff
