Can’t believe it’s been four years since my visit. When we went to Omaha beach I took my shoes off. Dammit I wanted to feel the sand and water on my feet. I must have been there an hour just thinking about what heroics happened on that very spot. frick we didn’t deserve those men.

My Dad had a older friend that landed and managed to survive either Utah or Omaha beach. He was telling us one day that there were a number of guys that went through training with him that didn't believe in God. He said as the land crafts were approaching the beach and bullets and bombs were flying that everyone of them were praying like crazy. He actually was on the cover of of one of the major news magazines when they had a huge reunion over there a number of years ago.

After that early incident, the Allies had total air superiority at the landing beaches.

I was lucky enough to visit Normandy and do a tour last summer. You definitely get a better understanding once you’re there with a history guide.

The people that were a part of this were extremely brave and I salture them for all that they did in WWII and D-Day. Every single one of them are better men than I will ever be.
I'm sure I'm repeating this sentence from you guys, but I bet these men are rolling in their graves over what America is like today. Non-stop hatred and rasict thoughts about people for just stating an opinion. It's a shame.

Omaha was really the only place the Allies encountered major resistance. Most of the invasion force came ashore virtually unmolested.

All he ever did was push his bicycle around town collecting cans. Hobbling would be best way to describe his hunched over walk.
About 15 years ago, i’m attending the funeral of a friend killed in Afghanistan.
The old man happened to be passing in front of the church as were all coming out.
When he saw the Flag Draped casket, he dropped his bike stood at attention and saluted. Held that position until at least after we rounded the corner.
I found out later that the old man was part of the Utah Beach invasion. And the guy who came home from that war was just a shell of the guy who left.
But even as an old, broken, drunk, and completely forgotten about bum, he stood there and saluted that fallen soldier.

I had the great pleasure of touring the Normandy Coast last April just a few weeks before the 75 anniversary of the landings. We stayed in Bayeux which is about 6 miles from Gold Beach. From the German batteries at Gold Beach, we went west and saw all three villages on Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, Utah Beach, and many other places. It was fascinating.

We have pictures of my grandfather in Germany tearing down Nazi flags in my mom's house.
Before he died, the same people destroying our cities today called people like him "Nazis", simply because he voted for a Republican.
When he watched the news one night, he turned to us and said he never imagined a day in his lifetime where he would be branded something so awful, simply because he held a different view. Had the media called him and his buddies "Nazis" during the war, they would have just come home and spared themselves.
I'm actually glad he didn't live to see this.
