Good for you. Your Grandpa did a good job.
Pain is a 'sacrifice' and witness to the depth of one's love. No love, no pain.
IMO, you will see and live with your Grandpa again. And ya'll will move forward, together. That is 'heaven'.

Held his hand, said a prayer, talked to him for the last time, kissed him on the forehead and tearfully told him I loved him and had to be going, as they came to start making my dear friend comfortable for the inevitable
While it hurts to say goodbye, this right here, leaving nothing unsaid, is the greatest gift. Nothing hurts more than not getting to say everything. Or more specifically, not saying everything despite the chance.
Hang in there, love will see you through…

Lost my father in law yesterday. Loved that man. Its def not easy, and I will think of him often and fondly. Especially when looking at my 12 yr old who was very close to him.
Godspeed Bop.

Sorry for your loss. But death of family and friends happens at all ages. Be happy you had them around so long.

We have hope in the resurrection and eternal life. Someday we will be reunited with our loved ones.

Absolutely
And thanks to everyone that posted well wishes
Just needed to type it out yesterday, maybe a bit selfish on my part, but typing it out unburdened me a little

Prayers sent - been there - done that - too many times to recount.
I have held the hand of too many loved ones on their death bed. Thank God, all went peacefully and primarily with grace and comfort. That is about all you can pray for.
The hard ones are when a pre-teen dies. There is no way to reconcile that with how things ought to be. Thank God I have only had to endure this twice.
I only hope I can perform my last interactions as well as those I have attended.
Expressions of love, words of comfort, and recollections of good times = my recipe.

I got teary eyed on this one. I'm not looking forward to those days.

My dad died in 2007. Every year since, I take 2 days for myself - Father's Day and the anniversary of his death. I never have anything planned out special. Just all to myself.
I am doing that exact same thing. I done told work don't look for next friday because I won't be there.

Understand and it sucks. Lost two of my best friends before I graduated high school. Hard to want to get close to others.

Unfortunately I’ve had to do this more than the average person. My father, by little brother and my very own son. It sucks and each time takes a little more out of you.

It was just the two year anniversary of losing my best friend way to young (50) Sunday. I spent a good portion of the day in tears.
His daughter is my God-daughter (now daughter) and speaking to her Sunday was painful.
We should be texting each other pictures of the grandkids right now instead of me missing him.
Loss is hard but I pray one day we will be hunting and fishing together again.
