I did this by accident about three years ago when a 15 year old called me sir.
I immediately back pedaled when I realized I'm not 10 years older than him... I forget how old I am most of the time. Hell, the wife caught me chucking hatchets at a tree last weekend.

I would've probably had my arse beat if I ever called my dad by his first name.

My son is near 20 years old and still refers to my friends as “Mr X, Y, Z etc”. It seems kind of weird because he sits around the campfire drinking beer with us now. But these guys helped raise this kid and it’s a sign of respect. They’re old enough to be his dad.

You sound like an a-hole. If thats what the dude wants to be called, you should respect his wishes. If it bothers you that much, maybe get some perspective.

My perspective is I see a bunch of kids that don't respect dang near anything and I'm not trying to raise mine that way.

My daughter sometimes jokes around and calls us by our first names. It’s funny and not a big deal. She calls our friends Mr. and Ms. First Name which is totally fine and respectful. I personally would just prefer to be called by my first name by everyone regardless of age. I dont find it rude or disrespectful.

It’s about as annoying as people saying “um, Mr. _____ is my father.” Implying you should not use “Mr.”
There’s a certain age range where the exchange makes sense. Maybe middle to later age.
But certainly not to a child. Or teen. Maybe late 20s-30s.

I thought it was a new trend, but almost everyone now (at least what I’ve seen) goes by “mr./mrs./ms. First Name”
I like it better than last name as well

Seems like the respectful thing to do is for your kid to call him by Bill instead of Mr Bill if that's what Bill prefers.

Mr. "Last Name" is for Yankees and teachers. Otherwise, Mr. Bill is the norm.

I will not allow my son to call me by my first name and he of course never has. I half jokingly called my dad by his first name when I was like 8 or 9 and he said stern as hell "you never call me by my first name, I'm dad for as long as I'm alive"

You are right...this dad who thinks he's cool for having his son call him by his first name is a fool.

Yeah, calling your Parents by their first name is trashy.

No it doesn’t. Social norms in all but a few communities (one being middle to lower middle class southern whites) have changed.

My kids call me Dad, and get stomped if they use my real
Name. They all know it in case of emergency but cannot use it!
