I'd blame daycare costs before car seats.
Having a kid in daycare certainly makes you question how many more you can afford.

Most people have their kids a few years apart. So if you follow this rule, you would have to space them out 4 years if you want to have 3 kids but only 2 car seats. Wasn’t even a thought in my head though when my wife and I were having children. We had a 3 year old, then twins, then 4 years later our 4th child. So we had a big arse suburban and a lot of car seats
