Doesn't matter... Higher than average IQ still debunks the notion that cops are idiots that were likely the bottom 10% of their high school class.

“slightly higher.” Let’s not get carried away. The average person isn’t asked to make life and death decisions either. I’m also not sure if that average includes detectives and special agents that rarely interact with the general public.

That said, I’ve never considered cops to be, on average, “dumb.”

Pretty much all were cops and worked the streets for years before getting those positions

All cops are racist with IQ’s in the teens. Just money grabbing pigs. Basically the OT answer.

What requirements should be added? Keep in mind more barriers means more pay. Look at teachers.

Yeah and that’s why it’s crazy how y’all defend them when they shoot a black person

This is just an ignorant statement all around. Cops are defended on here when suspects act like idiots, regardless of race.

You and your ilk presumptively assume all black people are innocent regardless of circumstance and every cop is guilty regardless of circumstance

It's not the 40K a year that draws them, it's the 40K per year per life at age 40.

I looked into a few larger local departments in the DFW area. Arlington, Fort Worth and another smaller town between Dallas and Fort Worth. They all had criteria listed on their sites to pass. You have any specific town your speaking of. A few of the towns required bachelors. Some an associates and others none. They all did entry level screening to some degree. Before you even got accepted to the academy, I went through a physical agility test, psychological evaluation, polygraph and an initial interview. After that is a board interview.

I see this “how little is required” argument a lot. But when someone asks for specifics, the judgement becomes a bit more obscure.

What town and what “minimal” requirements are you speaking about specifically? What minimum requirements would you suggest would make policing in general attract better applicants?

There’s no consistency. There are police officers with military service and masters degrees and then there are some that barely made it out of HS.

That’s BS and made up. No department is gonna turn down someone over that. No, I’m not a cop.

The case was Jordon vs New London and US 2nd Circuit Court sided with the city of New London based on intelligence not being a protected class.

They considered an IQ of 110 or above a disqualification for police work and fedgov rubber stamped it, think about that for a while.

I think it's a lot more frightening how low the requirements are to be a member of Congress, to be honest.

hell yeah! all you have to do is watch Chicago PD and Law & Order Suv, all of the cops wearing street clothes now started as uniforms! seems like a requirement now for all of the new hires to have been army rangers before being cops

Wouldn't it be simpler to move to Chicago.

Scary to think these idiots actually have some authority over people

People can and do change. Being a cop doesn't require advanced knowledge of physics or engineering. However, it does require quick decision making, situational awareness, and common sense.

You could take 100 people with varying levels of high school/college/post grad education and after some time I doubt there would be a big difference in the quality of those police officers.
