It’s degrading to people who, through no fault of their own, were born with mental disabilities. That being said, releasing him seems harsh. Punishment doesn’t fit the crime. Masking it as part of his “hood” culture is inexcusable as well. It’s not a double standard, you can’t lash out at white people for everything they do and then blame it on your culture when it benefits you.

But, we should not be in the business of policing speech. Either directly, or through sideways measures like "hate speech" or "hate crimes."
In a free society, offensive language is just part of doing business. Sanction action, not words.

Mental retardation was the established medical term for years but I guess they changed it to intellectually disabled now.
