You really have no idea. Shooting black people or anyone with long hair was a common conversation. Bombs on campuses were a real concern. When you graduated from high school you had to figure out how to avoid the draft or you had a good chance of dying. What happened Wednesday was an ongoing threat in government buildings and college campuses across the nation. It wasn’t just left vs right. You had riots at the Chicago Democratic Convention because the left wasn’t left enough.

Yes, by far.
I have friends and family that hate each other now because of social media politics.

Easy. And I don't see it getting any better. Biden will be named the best president ever. Will promote climate change and all of the other stupid shite.

It's amazing...Left is okay with silencing your voice unless you agree with them. I don't watch the national news anymore. All of them are brainwashing the public and the public is so dumb they follow like sheep. Can't think for themselves. The white male is the hunted now.

Its easily the most divided we have been since the 60s.

I suppose the one thing that helped in the 60s was the lack of the internet. Things were probably much worse in the 60s, most people were just not aware of it.

Now we are aware of everything, which just heightens the tension.

Although most of the tension is mostly on the internet. I've still yet to see or feel any of this tension in my everyday life.

Also, I think many are forgetting how tense things were in 2012-2013ish. We had the same threads back then. The Poliboard thought a race war was imminent.

In my lifetime, for sure.

And I blame social media for 100% of it.

This is patently false. Part of the division is having bifurcated underlying assupmtions and facts. It's PERCEIVED we know everything which compounds the problem. Sort of like experts know how to predict the future because we have super computers.

You misunderstood me.

I didn't say we "know everything", especially when it comes to information. We don't seek information. We seek affirmation.

I said we are aware of everything that is happening moreso than we did before the internet. Which is patently true. The vast majority of people were not aware of a lot of the things that were happening in the 60s.

One thing Americans are really good at is compartmentalizing issues and convincing themselves those issues are not present in their communities. This allows them to go on with their lives pretending everything is fine. Further exasperating that is most people would not say some of the stuff they say on social media except in close company. So unless your Facebook friends with Bob in accounting, you may not know he's a Qanon follower, or participated in many BLM protests. That ignorance allows you to interact and get along with him in everyday life.

Society would be much happier if this was still the case

The burden of being informed is real.

yes - and everyone is to blame for it - what I have seen in the 44 years of my existence, is the more people want to be treated equally and fairly, the more they push for it - the more it inadvertently creates a greater rift.

Right.

Ignorance is bliss. Which probably helped tremendously in thee 60s, which was the point I was trying to make.

A Qtard and a BLM activist could pass each other in the store and be completely respectful and cordial to each other, then they go home and get on FB and tell each other to kill themselves in the local news comment section.

Yes. Thanks to the internet, stupidity is now rampant among the Republican party. Add into that the retards of maga not even being connected to reality and you have what we are seeing today.

Yeah, granted i'm an 80's baby so I can only go off that.

But for those blaming it on liberals neglect to state anything about far right extremist, racist, or those who view anyone else that's not them as inferior. Its one thing to be like "Oh its just the liberals and everyone who doesn't agree with them is wrong" as if no one on the other side has said the same thing.

It's honestly an issue on both sides with extremist and those who have far views on this and that. And I feel it's only going to get worse sadly. Whereas those of us in the middle are stuck watching like a ping pong match or picking a side.

if you truly think that stupidity is rampant only in the republican party, then you are delusional. the fact of the matter is stupidity is rampant in government - period. the parties are only looking out for them and who they represent - if you can look at all the political BS of the last 20 years, and objectively say that one side or the other has ever truly had the interests of the little guy in mind, then you need a Psych evaluation.

the problem with where we, as a nation, are at at this time - we do not know how to meet 1/2 way, we only deal in extremes - we either tend way off in one direction or the other, but never find, or in a lot of regards ever really try to find, a middle ground or happy median, if you will. social media really allows that to occur in mass amounts.

He probably doesn’t. Like some of the other posters on here, they just come to this type of threads to troll and get bites.

You have an entire party whose members are basically having to secretly disclose who they voted for out of fear of retaliation or being shut down or publicly shamed. Go ahead and own a business and put a Trump/Pence sign in front. See what happens

All I heard about before the election was that Trump would win bigly because no one had any enthusiasm for Biden.

No one attended his rallies, whereas Trump drew huge crowds

And notably here, “everyone” agreed that you saw tons of Trump signs in people’s yards but no Biden signs

I read your post and it seems the opposite is apparently true, that people were ashamed, not enthused, for Trump. Weird.
