Is there anything that would make you miss the birth of your first child?

I was recently watching NFL Network reruns, and they were mentioning Richard Sherman potentially missing the Superbowl for the birth of his first child. Then, they talked about Joe Flacco missing the birth of his second child to play a September game against the Cleveland Browns.

That said, is there anything out there in your profession that would cause you to miss the birth of your first child (or any of your children for that matter)?

You’re not required to be there. If providing for your now larger family is a priority then yes you’ll not be present.

Lol. Somewhere in between a game with the browns and the super bowl most likely. World Series game id probably be there unless it’s game 6 or 7. Super Bowl I’m missing the birth.

Also, your wife has to be some stupid crazy hippy or you have to be just dumb to miss a scheduled important event for a birth these days. Women are routinely induced now to help either with the doctor’s, hospital’s, or parent’s schedules.

We had a kid induced on the 28th of December so everything was covered by the current year’s deductible. Didn’t work out as well as planned, but still. Another was induced because my wife was 10 days passed due date.

I almost did. 6 hours away when my wife’s water broke. Made it though.

No, not in my profession.

At the time I was pretty strongly of the opinion that Richard Sherman should have played in the Super Bowl if it had turned into a conflict. That's his pinnacle and why he gets paid millions of the dollars that will go toward supporting his family. I still feel that way.

Going to have to side against Joe on this one.

It’s not that big of a deal. My dad wasn’t there for my birth and I thought he was the greatest dad anyone could have.

I know plenty dads that brag about no way in hell they would miss their first borns birth and they are terrible dads.

You won’t win the award on day one. That comes years later.

But I would not miss starting in a Super Bowl. Round at Augusta, that would be a tough one.

Nothing. That's the kind of shite that even a normal woman (oxymoron, I know) will hold a grudge for for years to come.

I know it used to be that men sat in the waiting room, but times have changed and we men let it happen so we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

I know a guy that missed the birth of his first child for a regular hunting trip. The kind of trip he does every weekend during hunting season. He's now divorced unsurprisingly and seems to be a pretty shite dad too.
