re: Is there any worse office etiquette than eating from a potluck you didn’t bring food to?

How many cases of Hep A do you think will manifest from this event?

People have cats. Cats do disgusting things then get on counters. Equally, people, in general, are disgusting. I'm not eating food from other people unless I know them and I know them well. No way I'm eating food from the office with that many people.

Usually I think most of these rants are stupid, but I got your back on this one.
It's like walking up to someone elses picnic and plopping your arse down next to the basket, reaching in and pulling out a chicken leg. I mean, WTF???

We had a potluck style safety meeting and I had employees making togo plates to take home before most even ate.

If so many people are eating to where there isn't enough to go around or there are no opportunities for seconds, then yes, I generally agree. However, if there is more than enough, who cares? My office pot lucks always result in too much food because everyone feels guilty that they HAVE to bring something, then some things are barely touched, and there's a bunch of wasted food.

You guys screwed up by not being clear about your pot luck rules.

So the pot luck was only for 20 people? Did you really expect 100 people to all bring food?
Did some bring drinks, plates, cups, etc?
You sound like a miserable person.

One time at an office potluck one of my coworkers just straight up stuck his finger in the desert and then licked his finger, so I'd say that is worse.

Potlucks for work or any situation outside of friends/family is gross.

Yes, those same ones who also set up a second plate to take home, some even extras for their family members.

I really don't care so long as I don't have to bring home any leftovers. Still undefeated in that regard

Cropdusting people’s cubicles is probably more frowned upon than eating food at a potluck you didn’t contribute to.

I hate those people. Used to work at a place where we did potluck for each department and there was a China man who would just wonder from floor to floor during holiday season to see who had food so he could eat. Never once was he invited or did he bring food.
Thankfully for the past 15 years the places I’ve worked pick up catering that the company pays for when it’s office food events.

I’m not bringing in food for an office potluck but also have no interest in eating anything prepared by my coworkers so it works out just fine.

The potluck was for the entire floor, we had multiple emails, meeting placeholder, etc. and sign-up sheets in the kitchen which you must pass through to get get to our desk so we know damn well that everybody saw it.
Only 20 people of the 100 brought food, but the other 80 are fricking leeches

Years ago we had one and a dish (or money donated to a lady who was doing a lot of the cooking and setit up) was price of admission. We had names of everyone who donated money or brought a dish. It was set up in a separate room from the breakroom. It worked out well.

What did you bring?

Back when I had to be in an office they would have potlucks at least once a month. People who brought stuff got their food first. The after that it was open to anybody, and when it was gone it was gone.

Not an office pot luck, but a club meeting. Woman brought her sister and mother and a quart bowl half filled with a cold corn salad. Nothing more.
