Is there such a thing to give to your kid pre-puberty or even during that could help him grow to be taller?

Actually it isn't that uncommon for pediatricians to prescribe HGH to children. I knew a couple of kids my age growing up that were <1 percentile type height and took medicine. They are both still short, but no telling how short they would've been.

I've got a buddy who was really small in grade school, so his parents put him on growth hormones. He did eventually grow taller by the end of high school and start of college, but now that we're almost 40 he complains about back and joint problems that he blames on taking the growth hormones as a kid

The only medicinal options are for disorders or deficiencies. No doctor is going to give your 5’6 9th grader a shot to get him to 6’0.

The best you can do is ensure your kid has a healthy diet.
