The problem is it's not THAT convenient, but it is expensive. By the time you drive to the airport, get fuel, preflight, weather checks etc you're already behind a driving trip by a few hours.
Having access to you own jet and flight crew would be one of the greatest perks of being super rich. Your pilots take care of all that you show up and go.
I flew to Seminole Texas from Meridianville Al a few months ago. The trip is a roughly 1100 miles. I drove about 4 miles to the airport walked straight to the plane and was in Seminole in roughly 2 hrs. This was on a Bombardier.

Ga manufacturers have also made it hard to fly. A 172 has only minor changes year to year, yet a new one in $500,000. You can get a nice used one with a glass cockpit for $65,000.
The engines are what pisses me off. An air cooled boxer engine block is $18,000???
Insanity.
I really want a C177 cardinal but the added costs scare me away.
I can afford the buy in, but can't justify the expenses.

Paneling was on the bulkhead. Probably on the low end of private planes but this ol dirt farmer thought it was nice.

Honda makes a decent looking jet.

I currently own a SR22T. Got the upgrade bug bad. I love how Cirrus made a “personal” jet
quote:But you "got the upgrade bug bad" ... for a jet? Have to agree with PearlJam. Even outside the Huntsville bit, your "upgrade bug" to a jet is very strange.quote:I bought it from a family friend in an estate sale.
When you were moving to Huntsville, you couldn't afford a house in nice neighborhoods near downtown, now you are flying around in your own small plane. Just seems strange.

Upgrade bug isn’t necessarily realistic.

quote:Now this is hilarious. To illustrate how flying international on a private jet is a pain, you provide a personal story where flying "international" was easy, simply to brag about flying with a YT influencer to the Bahamas.
Honestly anytime you fly international it’s almost easier to fly commercial. I’ve flown with a well known YT influencer on a TBM to the Bahamas and it’s fairly easy there, but from what I’ve heard outside the Caribbean it’s a pain.

Tired of all this posing.
Here is my plane - a Cessna 301B - Tail number N5348A
The Cowl marking is Songbird. That is my personal pilot Sky and copilot Clipper. My personal Stewardess's name is Penny. She is not shown in this photo.

I think the cirrus outperforms the honda vlj.

Sr22’s are not for the wealthy only. New ones maybe, but g2’s are mid 200’s. That isn’t crazy expensive when you realize that most GA aircraft are financed for 20 years. Really only about $1,500/month financing costs before flying.
As for the times. If I’m flying for an hour, it’s about equal by the time I drive to the airport, go, and then get a car and go where I was going. Anywhere over that and it beats driving easily. The previous poster was absolutely correct though that it is the flying that is the attractive part. Being able to use it for traveling is a bonus. Sometimes I just go up and fly back and forth between local airports. It makes sense due to my plane being experimental with vastly reduced maintenance and operating costs. A cirrus is going to run you about $285/hr to operate. Mine is about $50/hr and I’m only about 10kts slower but on half the fuel.
There are two smart ways to fly - with someone else paying for it, or experimental.
Jets will make you cry when you have to deal with the annuals and maintenance. That 750-1mm jet is going to cost you 200-400k every year in required maintenance.

My SR22 costs approximately $198/hr without factoring in unscheduled maintenance in.

I had a cirrus owner show me their spreadsheet a while back. That was on a 2006 g2. If we assume that you actually do own the plane that you won’t post pics of.....and it is a 2011, then it is possible that you may leave lower costs than one that is 5 years older.....but I doubt that as well.
