Why so few Black male teachers?

The link has all of the charts. At this time I can't post them.

quote:

But more men are going into teaching. There was a 22 percent increase in the number of male teachers between 1988 and 2012. The increases were especially large among Hispanic and Asian men. However, the increases have been more modest among black men. And an important note: The size of the teaching force in America increased 46 percent between 1988 and 2012. So, a 30 percent increase in black men isn't even keeping pace with overall growth.

quote:

Why are black teachers disappearing? There was an overall reduction in the teaching force in response to the recession in 2009. Some of the reduction in black teachers came as part of mass layoffs or school closings. The data suggest there's been a slowdown in the hiring of black teachers, too.

quote:

Now, why do black teachers quit? It seems to have something to do with the schools where they work. Teachers of color are two to three times more likely than white teachers to work in high-poverty, urban schools.

quote:

Kyle Boyer quit his job at one of those schools. He says teachers were given little autonomy to run their classrooms the way they thought best. And there was lots of pressure to raise test scores.
"When you're constantly under the pressures of data and assessment [and there's no] freedom and trust to innovate, I think it leads folks to not really be happy with their jobs," he said.
On surveys, 50 percent of teachers of color who leave their jobs cite job dissatisfaction. Here's a graph that shows what they are dissatisfied with.

I would think this would be a positive. For the kids, you know. Possibly an inspiration.

There's a reason there's a movie made about every black teacher who ever existed

I couldn't believe Coach Carter locked them kids out tha gym, but by the end of the movie, I got it.

At some point you cannot force people to do jobs they apparently do not want to do.

I'm disturbed by the fact that, based on data, you could imply that school systems are more parental to some children than their actual parents.

Do black people sit around all day wondering where they aren't represented?

What about fish aquarium tenders?
Corn farmers?
Craps dealers? Nevermind that one
How about window engravers? Black man gettin' the shaft!

Teachers of color
LINK
quote:

The answer to the question - "Are black and white colors?"  - is one of the most debated issues about color. Ask a scientist and you'll get a reply based on physics: “Black is not a color, white is a color. "
quote:

1. Black is the absence of color (and is therefore not a color)

Explanation:
When there is no light, everything is black. Test this out by going into a photographic dark room. There are no photons of light. In other words, there are no photons of colors.

2. White is the blending of all colors and is a color.

Explanation:
Light appears colorless or white. Sunlight is white light that is composed of all the colors of the spectrum. A rainbow is proof. You can't see the colors of sunlight except when atmospheric conditions bend the light rays and create a rainbow. You can also use a prism to demonstrate this.

Fact: The sum of all the colors of light add up to white. This is additive color theory.

No.

I went to a school where in 4th and 5th grade all my teachers were black.

So was most of my class.

During February..Adam, Stuart, Lauren and myself would be bombarded with dust covered in-class 8mm projector films about harriet Tubman, MLK, how wicked the south was, etc.
shite got old. And somehow felt like each class was history.."rosa parks knew how to add numbers too.."

Personally, I would rather go to vocational school and learn a trade than become a teacher. Primarily because of pay.

Also, I dont do well in front of crowds. You can tell by posting history that I have feeble social skills.

We're also really selective in these campaigns.

The OT needs to start advocating on behalf of women in waste management fields and black dudes in the coal mining industry. The underrepresentation is a disgrace and something must be done.
