Fun fact: Many of the vet practices are no longer owned by the docs. The practices have been sold to private equity owned companies, and the docs are under increasing pressure to deliver financial results.

Very true.. i recently found out that the vet clinic ive used for a long time was sold to a corporate entity .. only found out since i noticed their fees had gone up dramatically and one of the employees mentioned to me off the record that the practice had been “acquired”.. Id like to switch to a non-corporate owned practice, but does anyone know how to find out if a particular practice is corporate or more mom and pop ? Becuase most obviously dont advertise it, and id never have know this about my vet clinic unless the employee hadnt mentioned it to me .

Wait until you have to start seeing specialists. My cat developed epilepsy last June at 14 months old.

I've spent $2k in just cat blood work and specialist visits since May 4th of this year. That doesn't count anything else for her, my dog or anything prior to that date.

How many people would put up with a roommate who they have to feed every meal, sometimes shits on the carpet, smells and makes loud noises, never pays rent, makes you pay his medical bills, etc.?

The same is true of kids, but you legally have to deal with them if the adoption place can’t find a spot for them. But the pets are unrelated strangers invited in to render such abuse.

Medical doctors are the same way. You just don’t see the ridiculous charges because your insurance gets the hit.

Insurance is why the charges are ridiculous.

Yes, cable companies, but vets are getting pretty bad, especially in cities. Find an old, country vet if you can.

Y’all are all getting ripped off. I took my dog in on Tuesday. 3 teeth extracted, 7 days of amoxicillin, total bill $60.50.

And year of heart worm pills for $84.00

I just spent $1,300.00 to have a basal cell tumor removed from my dog’s jaw.

My dad would roll over in his grave if he heard that.

Imagine trying to deal with a patient that can’t actually tell you what’s going on.

The vet who all our neighbors up here recommended when we first moved up here was country, experienced and simply brilliant with pets.
A young cat adopted us and her left front leg was hurt and she had dragged it on the ground before adopting us. We took her to the brilliant vet. He walked into the examining room, glanced at her and said "Hurt left front paw: without reading the chart. He sat beside her, had her walk to him, felt her joints on both front legs and said "She's healing well. Anything I can do will be painful for her and will set her back several months.

He was correct,. She got most of the use of that paw back and lasted about fourteen more years.

He died. His business was sold to money makers.

We're just thankful to have reasonable spay/neuter through Young Williams in Knoxville and rabies shots through the county health department.

Is this the thread where a bunch of baws with a high school education bitch about entirely voluntary services?

No one makes you own a pet nor makes you take it to the vet. Just put a .22 in the skull of Fido everytime he starts to show weakness and get another.

You need a rural vet.

Rural WI where the same vet goes out to the farms;

Spa day for dog. bath/nails/etc
Annual (or however often) shots
Tested ears and gave her drops. (Claims she needs this about every 3 months on average)

$418

She was there for 2 hours.

My vet has the same drugs and tools. Why can't he fix me up for something simple at 20 times less cost?

Seems to work on Yellowstone.

You just need a barrel racer there to pull out the knife.

That was completely uncalled for. You need reporting to the admins and punch in your tiny nutsack.

That’s why I don’t have pets. WAY more trouble than they’re worth.

Your opinion.

Molly and Murray cost me quite a bit every year, with heart worm and flea/tick medication and whatever comes up.

My vet saved Molly's life a few years ago, and I'll continue to pay her whatever she asks for what she says we need to do.

My dogs are my family. Some people see pets as no different than an animal in the wild. I'm not one of those people.

My pediatrician coded my son’s “free” annual wellness visit as a sick visit because I asked if we should continue QVAR. Doctors add shite all of them time that’s probably unnecessary.
