Politicians and media have perfected their exploitation of human confirmation bias. People are able to gorge on information that confirms their preconceived beliefs and their appetites appear endless.

I think the % of idiots/conspiracy theorists/misinformed is about the same. The only difference now is that they all have a platform to show it.

almost everyone would agree with this while simultaneously believing they are the exception

Exposed to significantly more information, yet significantly less informed.

This is the one right here.

Now more than ever IMO, people will quite simply believe whatever they want and just choose to think the thing that doesn't fit their narrative is a lie, and that's that.

More informed with false information

this is the right answer. we have basically given powerful handheld misinformation devices to children. No one knows how to or bothers to fact check things.

There's more misinformation than ever from more sources than ever.

I would argue it is a net positive if you teach your child how to use it properly

I don't see how this is even a question if pre-internet and post-internet are being compared.

In the case of pre, you just relied on what journos and some other big names said on TV/radio/newspaper. Word of mouth right next to that.

Now? You can dig up loads of information yourself. Does everyone do this? No, but the sheer fact you can at all is the main difference.

More informed, but much more gullible and much dumber overall than pre internet.

I agree. With the disclaimer that most articles don't say anything after the headline. Journalism is dead. Also with AI the watchers see how long you stay on an article and probably can tell the same thing you are saying Headlines plus a few lines then out. SO now no push for investigative journalism. We are our own worst enemy sometimes

They are better informed of opinions sold as news to drive ad revenue. But properly educated on the actual issues going on around them? probably less.

More access to information with little to no critical-thinking skills.

A few weeks ago someone posted a YouTube video of this guy in what I think was Times Square interviewing 20somethings, here’s some of the questions they could not answer correctly:

1. Name two countries that border the US

2. Who did the US fight in the Civil War?
(I was surprised how many guessed France)

3. Who did Germany fight against in WWII?
(One girls said “they fought the Nazis”)

4. What language is spoken in Idaho?
(He asked this one a lot. None could answer)

5. The Queen of England is the ruler of what country?
(I believe one thought it is the US)

6. If you’re driving 60 MPH, how far would you go in one hour?
(I thought one girl was going to have a stroke trying to figure it out)

7. How many dimes are in a dollar?

8. In what state is Utah?

9. In what year was the US founded?
(One girl thought it was the 1970s, another the 1990s)

10. How long is a quarter hour?
(The closest any got was when one guessed 35 minutes)

This video went on for like 10 minutes. Person after person was asked questions and they were almost all completely clueless. They could however name off all the Kardashians.
