Is slander really a big deal?

I've got an older brother who is rich as frick. He just bought a home in Spain, and I think he did it to piss me off. He lives there half the year with his wife and kid.
Of course, I had to talk some shite about him to our people. He found out, and said I was slandering him. Admittedly, I was being a little dickish. Is slander a big deal, or is this ok to settle the sibling scorecard?

Was the shite you were talking untrue? If it is true then it isn’t slander, it’s just letting everyone know you don’t like your brother.
If it was actually slander, yeah making up shite about the guy is garbage. If you are gonna bad mouth him, at least be honest about it.

If you say anything to a third party that's not true with intent to harm the subject, it's slander/defamation of character. It's hard to win that lawsuit but it's certainly possible.
