My nephew had a severe reaction at school because someone ate peanuts at their desk the previous period.
How old is your nephew?

Old enough to have separate periods in different classrooms. I don't think that started for my school system until 5th grade I believe it was.

A National Institute of Health study in 2021 showed peanut allergies increased 3.5 fold over the last 2 decades. In 1997, 0.4% of kids in the Western world showed peanut allergies...currently it is between 1-2%. So, in a school of 600 kids...between 6-12 of them are likely allergic to peanuts.
While China produces more and consumes more peanuts than the US, their allergy response is lower. Many attribute this to them boiling or frying peanuts prior to consumption rather than how we dry roast them. Remember, the hypersensitive response is to the proteins...and they are impacted by how the food is prepared.

I recently learned that they don't give kids seafood on Fridays. When I was in school, on Fridays we always had either fried fish, seafood gumbo and something else.. The food was actually not that bad, it wasn't great, but there were some things that were really good and the fried fish and seafood gumbo was always good.
Evidently now, they no longer serve seafood because of allergies or some shite. I don't understand how years ago (years after I graduated) all of a sudden you hear about kids having all of these allergies. Sometimes I will have some type of reaction to tomatoes. If I use ketchup, some evidently use more real tomatoes than others, if I use some that does.. from time to time it will cause a reaction. My nose starts running, my eyes will swell a little bit and I will all of a sudden get a headache and start sweating, but it doesn't last that long. These kids are pampered.

Pro-tip: Lie and say it's sunflower butter not peanut butter.

The reason why SW Airlines stopped giving you peanuts.
Real reason is bag of peanuts * millions of passengers per year = a lot of money saved.

If the allergies are legitimately that bad, special accommodations need to be made for that student, not just banning the other kids from having something they enjoy.
That's what I'm saying.
Of course people make me out to be some monster that hates kids, nothing could be further from the truth. And sure, some kids are deathly allergic, and that's one thing.
But we all know there are mothers out there whose kid has a "peanut" (and other) allergies.
You know what happens? A rash. Some hives. But they demand that all the other kids be denied peanut stuff.
It's just overreaction. If I'm allergic to something, I make moves. I don't expect the world to kowtow to me. It's not feasible.

I love when you dorks go all tough guy over little kids’ allergies
Let’s say, hypothetically, you actually had some power and authority and had to decide what to do with public school kids peanut allergies. You’re not kicking to the curb or just saying “don’t go near him if you have peanuts”
You’re doing exactly what has been done since the 2000s or so and banning them from classes/schools as necessary
Exactly. I’m questioning the extent to which a lot of these guys have dealt with more than a handful of kids at one time.
Elon Musk once said rocket science is hard because rockets naturally want to crash into the ground and explode, flying off into space is actually very unnatural.
That’s what a large group of small kids is like. It wants to be a complete disaster and you're never going to get everyone to do what they’re supposed to with what they have in their possession….8 hours a day for 180 days out of the year.
Yes, it’s annoying to completely ban things that are perfectly safe for almost everyone but that’s all it is, a minor annoyance. The school is weighing our minor annoyance against potential hospitalization, death, bad press and lawsuits, and if people can’t understand that I don’t know what to say.

Extensively.

People can understand the motive behind the decision and still call it out for its stupidity. Not that difficult of a concept.

It’s definitely not. Yet you have people ITT who can’t comprehend it.

Maybe I don’t.
My interpretation was that you’re saying that the fact that schools are in a position to have to make these kinds of decisions is stupid. That I agree with.
If you’re saying the motive itself is stupid, then I’ll go ahead and put you into the group of folks I mentioned before that I don’t know what to say to.

Need stronger peanut control laws. Should institute universal peanut checks.

Probably need to see about getting him in a new school that isn't filled with genetically weaker wimps.

One year a kid in my son's class had a severe nut allergy and they asked us to refrain from using peanut butter/nuts. Lame, but I get it. Sucks for that family to deal with that.

I mean, they still give you a bag of Chex mix style of snack.
Is the price between the two that drastic?

No, i'm calling out your post that I quoted. You are the one i'm calling out for failing to understand a basic concept.

I would be sneaking those regardless.
And if one of the pussies had some reaction to it, then that’s just life getting rid of the weakest humans
