I drive 120 miles a day 4 days a week. It doesn’t bother me at all. I bought an ‘08 rav-4 so I don’t put miles on my truck. I’ve been doing it for a year and a half. Doesn’t bother me a bit.

I know of a fellow OTer that does the Lafayette to BR commute. Same thing as you, no decent positions here in his particular field. (eta) He has said he would take a slight pay cut if he could cut his commute.
I personally would not want to do it. Right now it takes me about 3 minutes to get to work or home and it is really nice.

If you are leaving your house in Lafayette and making it to downtown Baton Rouge in an hour then I see nothing wrong with it at all.

If its exactly 1hr from your house door to the parking lot at work, then thats not too bad. Depending on living where in B.R or P-Ville/Denham, that commute could easily be 45 mins or more.

I have read that you can count the commute as 1/2 your hourly rate plus .49 per mile if you are comparing 2 jobs or locations to live. You can consider it your cost to live in Laffy.

.49 per mile is such an underestimate of what it takes to operate a car. Real cost is probably closer to $1 if not more. Especially if you are driving a car in the first 5 years of ownership.
Granted, driving it at such high mileage does offset some of that once the car is virtually worthless due to depreciation.

I've had hour long commutes for work before. I didn't think they were that bad. Now I live 3 miles from my office and I can't fathom why I was driving an hour each way for a few years.
You save a shite ton on gas, less wear on your vehicle, and you get nearly 2 hours of your life freed up every day.
Not counting holidays, you're driving 10 hours per week, 520 hours per year. That's 13, 8 hour work days worth of driving.
If it doesn't bother you, good for you. But I can't imagine spending that much of my time on the road anymore.

I live in Zachary. My mother keeps our little one in Central. I work in Baton Rouge.
It takes me an hour to get to and from work. You get used to it.
Your drive is all interstate. You could have it much worse. Deal with it, alter.

Depends on what you're driving. It cost me less than .40 per mile in an Accord.
