It’s uncommon but it happens.

Something similar happened to a guy in his 20s back home. Most young healthy people either ignore symptoms and push through. Or the medical field misses it.

The thing is you don’t feel that bad. It went on for two weeks but you don’t feel like you’re at death’s doorstep. But you are. I had a case of severe pneumonia two years ago when I was 53 and it almost killed me. I went to the doctor just in time. When she told me I had to go straight to the emergency room and be admitted, I was shocked. This was on a Friday and if I had waited the weekend, I probably would have been a goner.

why are 40,000 people still dying of pneumonia each year in 2026?

It's primarily the elderly, immunocompromised, and people who go undiagnosed (often because they avoid doctors) until sepsis sets in (like Kyle Bush).

Dying in your 40s of a medical illness is less likely but not unheard of. Dying in your 70s of pneumonia is normal.

That’s why if you go to the doctor with a virus, they don’t treat the virus, they prescribe antibiotic to ward off secondary infection.

I'll go ahead and help out the OP....
The increase in pneumonia deaths is a direct cause of excessive mask wearing during Covid that simply weakened the respiratory systems of many adults.
