Nissan/Infiniti still puts them in their vehicles.

I say it's time this unnecessary expense get cut from cars.
No, and I am plenty happy to have my CaseLogic CD binder on my passenger seat so I can grab my vintage Green Day, Tool, Korn, and Metallica CD's whenever I want.

Remember how awesome it was when CDs came out and you could listen to whatever song you wanted without having to fast forward or rewind? It was like voodoo or some shite.
I remember having the 10 disc CD player that was in my trunk, and I thought that was the coolest thing ever.

I've got cars that were purchased new in 2016, 2017 and 2018, each with CD players

I'm surprised any new cars have them, but I'm glad they do. My latest car has a factory entertainment system that plays CDs, DVDs, and Blu Rays, so I imagine CD players are hanging on in cars that way. My oldest car has a six disc CD changer, which I still use to this day.
CDs are still not obsolete, for many reasons. In fact, it's arguable they never will be obsolete in our lifetimes, as streaming services have content limitations that may never go away, if only to get worse. If you own a CD, you own a content license and the right to play it whenever and wherever you want, and you can put the content onto another medium for private use -- all short of public broadcasting, of course.
If I were in the market for a new car, but it was not offered with a CD player, I would definitely add an aftermarket player.

Rip them.
Keep physical media before they censor everything.

My wife’s ‘16 SUV doesn’t have one. My old arse ‘06 Tacoma has one and I use it more days than not.

My 2019 Ram has one kind of hidden under the console.
Wife’s 2019 car doesn’t have one.

I'm not sure what the chauffeur has up there... I'd ask him for you, but I don't want to

Bingo! I still buy and collect cd's, it is a hobby for me. Those remasters, deluxe editions, box sets, etc do it for me. It's the tangible excitement, to own them and to be able to read liner notes or see artist's photos. I have 250+ cd's, up to this day play them in my car and studio as well.
I have a 2011 car, it has a 6 cd changer, works wonders for me. My wife has a 2016 and it only has 1 cd deck. Yes it's old fashioned but then again it is a hobby.
Here, according to Google:
Is it worth buying CDs anymore?
If you're looking for a superior audio format, CDs are the best deal you're likely to get. ... Also, there's the resale value of CDs and vinyl. It might not be much, but you can sell your old records and CDs online or to record shops; if you buy a digital song, like an mp3 file, there's no resale value.

My wife had a 2006 Lexus RX330 and it had a tape deck.
Awful sound compared to the cd.

I love CD players in cars for some of that old indie music that you can't download anywhere. It's always good to have options. If I had my way, I would have a cassette player in my ride also lol. For real.
