My brother had the flu a couple of weeks ago. I just got put on meds for strep throat 2 days ago.

Dr said it was the flu until we requested a test for strep. It was strep.

I've felt a little off the past few days, but I feel like I'm being worked over with a bat while my body produces buckets of phlegm.

There's a pretty good cold going around, you probably have that. That is how it played out for me.
Flu hits you fast and hard.
Could be strep if you pop a fever and have a really painful sore throat.

Generally inconsistent with strep. Strep is usually sore throat, fever, and body aches.
Flu is that cough, congestion, fever, body aches, numerous random symptoms

Had strep twice and usually the dead giveaway was a throat that felt like it was on fire, not just sore.
