Atwater v. Lago Vista, 532 U.S. 318 (2001), was a United States Supreme Court decision which held that a person's Fourth Amendment rights are not violated when the subject is arrested for driving without a seatbelt.

Yep, I got stuck behind a slow driver once and was finally able to overtake them. When I got on the side of them, they began to speed up so I floored it and successfully passed them. I looked at my speedometer and the needle was creeping past 100 so I let off. First oncoming vehicle was a state trooper. He popped me for 96 in a 55 and actually let me drive my truck to the sheriffs office so I would have a way home after I bonded out lol.

Depends on how fast you were going. 20 over the speed limit can be wreckless endangerment. Usually if you are close to that number they’ll cut slack and reduce it. If you are going in excess of 112 mph on a motorcycle they WILL MOST DEFINITELY ARREST YOU. They will even have cops come down the wrong way of an off ramp on an interstate to stop you. Unfortunately I have personal knowledge of that.
Where? It’s just a ticket in MS and Louisiana.

Misdemeanor punishable by a fine, moron. Of course the facts won’t align perfectly
Misdemeanor vs a civil infraction... unless Louisiana is so backwards speeding is considered a misdemeanor. I don't entirely rule that possibility out.

You might want to read the court's opinion before criticizing someone..............

62 over will get you hauled in in WI.

That cop was way more tolerant than I would have been.

Quite a few states allow arrest for speeding even if only barely over the limit. While under normal circumstances it never happens it is occasionally used for the officer to access the inventory search exception.

If they don’t think you would return or settle it through mail/electronically to pay your ticket. They could arrest you for minor speeding and hold you til a judge is available to settle it immediately.
Use to be more of a common practice back in the day for small town cops.

Still is if you’re a resident of a noncompact state, like California.
You have to post bond bc California doesn’t apply any consequences regarding your license if you don’t pay. Unlike a state like MS which will suspend your license for failure to pay/show up to court for a citation a MS resident got in LA.
However as some have stated going 101 in a 65 can definitely be and arrestable offense.
In addition, if you get one for 75 in a 60 but refuse to sign the ticket you’ll take a ride as well.

Saw some poor black woman get 14 days for going 85mph on I-12 once when I was in court in Covington. Frick that place.

Dude was driving 101, the fastest speed limit anywhere in MS is 70 so he was doing at least 31 miles over the speed limit. Yes, he can be arrested in most (if not all) states depending on the officer and other issues.

Yes you can. If you’re clocked going 15-20 mph over the speed limit the cop may decide to arrest you for reckless driving.
