A couple hours before they cracked my son's chest open, stopped his heart, and repaired the hole in it I cried like a motherfricking baby. I was on the floor and inconsolable for about five minutes. I think it's ok...

There are several reasons to show emotion. Crying over a drama on lifetime with your wife is not ok.

wasn't trying to tough it out really, there was just so many things to deal with at the time, the docs for one, decisions to be made, it was pretty complicated and he had to go back in and have it reopened about 4 hours after the first surgery, only time it really hit me was sitting by his bed all night when it quieted down, intubated, it was tough

for what ever reason, i didn't cry at my mom's funeral.
since then i just refused to let myself cry. figured if my mom didn't deserve tears, no one else did.

Yeah. I was completely matter of fact right up to the last minute. You're right, there was so much shite to deal with it. Especially since we had traveled to HOU from New Orleans.

Yeah. That's when I folded. He was asleep in his little pack n play just as peaceful as could be, and I was devastated thinking that we were just going to hand him to a "stranger" and perform such a major surgery.

it's a weird thing. i almost feel like it's disrespecting her to ever cry for someone else.

yep, as parents, we'd trade places in a heartbeat, not a pun, to take their suffering, because of brain swelling they had to perform a craniectomy, cut a huge flap of his skull out and put it in a fridge for a month to try and get the swelling down, fought that for a month

You always hear this shite growing up, but damn if it ain't true.
My son didn't have a surgery or anything, but he got a finger smashed by a rocking chair almost a year ago (he's 19 months now). Hadn't really heard him cry in pain before and that shite tore me the hell up. I was not ready for that type of feeling at all.

There was a time when I didnt believe in crying. Throughout higj school I was in the belief that men dont cry.
Until I was about 21 I saw my dad absolutely wailing cuz he lost his best friend he's known since elementary school. I had never seen my father cry before until then
Fast forward 3 months later. I lost my father. I dang near cried non-stop. For a week I was crying guaranteed 3 times a day. The whole month i probably did cry at least once a day. It took me a long time to get over that.
Now, I no longer care about crying. If it makes me look like a bitch, oh well.
