Biological has never been someone I was concerned with.
Father figure gone at 26 or so.
I tie it more to a bit of loss when I was young. Maturing earlier than most. And a lot of bad situations.

My grandma has been battling Alzheimer's for multiple years now and after she fell a couple of times this year he came to the realization he could no longer take care of her. He is hurting because he misses the person he's been married to for over 50 years, and because he said he has failed her by putting her in an assisted living home. (which he spends nearly at waking moment at with her) He is great man, and felt like he had to apologize to the family for her not being there; of course he has absolutely nothing to apologize for.

That sucks about your grandma, but that is awesome that your grandparents are still together and your grandpa loves her so much, setting a great example for his family. This story you posted reminded me of the Shenandoah song "I Want to Be Loved Like That"
