Is it normal to stop caring about everything when you get old?

I'm kinda hitting that zone now. My youngest went off to college last month, and I've kinda stopped caring.

I don't care near as much as I used to about work, money, status, socializing, LSU football, my waistline, what's on TV (except GOT and Better Call Saul), and pretty much everything else that got me out of bed in the morning for most of my life.

I still like to look at hot women, though. But for not as long.

Oh, and I drink more.

I'm thinking about buying some of those shoes with Velcro instead of shoelaces.

It’s normal. It’s a mercy for old people so they don’t care that they’re dying.

It's a condition called being a cynical a-hole, & yes, everyone develops it.

Welcome to the club of old men. As a provider for other lives most of your life and then wake up one day thinking what you are thinking is normal. It sucks, but you will be surprised that your family will need you even more.

What is in order, if there is any chance, take a two week trip, leave the phone at home.

A bit young if you still working. That don't help inside the work place.

Slippy you're describing mild depression. Normal when last kid leaves. You aren't done parenting yet though. Not by a long shot. You have hobby and buddies? Plug into that for awhile.

I think you realize what's important and what isn't.

You do sound kind of depressed. I've studied gerontology and have determined that older adults are generally much happier than young people of working age. I found that a positive attitude correlates to the oldest of the old.

Successful aging involves:

1. A positive attitude.
2. Being relatively free of diseases. The effects of diseases, even of colds and the flu, on the body are cumulative; and,
3. Being lucky. By this I mean not being hit by someone who runs a red light, for example. You can be the healthiest person alive and have the most positive attitude but that doesn't preclude you from the carelessness or negligence of others.

IMO there's a difference in not giving a flying frick what other people think and just not caring about anything (which could be some depression creeping in).

your prob down because your youngest left for college. maybe your suffering from empty nest syndrome. find a hobby and get out and enjoy yourself.
