51 here and I also don't care nearly as much about things I cannot control. Also don't give a shite what others think of me. The wonder of money is no longer that intriguing. Football is more of a novelty than a passion. Still enjoy fishing but not nearly as afflicted with the need to go constantly. Probably the natural order of life. Phases and experiences of life change ones perspective.

This is your time to enjoy life. Dont let time fly by. Go on trips to see your son, or other kids if you have them. Be involved still. Im 30 and wish my parents were more involved in my life/time.

A bit young if you still working. That don't help inside the work place
I'm definitely still working and get along fine with most people. I just don't deal with bullshite and pretentious people as well as I used to.
I don't care much about fashion, what the vast majority of people think about me, popular culture/music etc. And as long as my pants still fit I'm in good enough shape

I can relate to this.
Empty nest syndrome. The hustle is gone. You no longer are rushing around going to hish school events and having your life revolve around your children and their friends. The adult friends you once had were your kids, friends parents. It’s just you and your wife now...It does get better and in a year or two you realize there is nothing keeping you home and you may even have a little more money in your bank account. You’ll get there.

I had always had I can do it attitude. But when life hands one so much shite on your plate, one can only say, NO MORE.
Successful aging my arse.
When you get to middle age, come back and then tell me if you lived a life.

I’m 60. I still love travel and sex. Not necessarily in that order

Just maybe they are waiting on you to come in be involved in THEIR LIVES NOW.
Young people just don't take their time any more.
My MIL passed last Monday. Every Sunday, she had dinner cooked for the complete family. This was done before FIL passed 16 years ago. Same thing what my Mom did till she passed.
Yesterday, together with the wife, her brother and sister and their SO's, we as a family will have at lease one Sunday dinner together a month as a family with grandkids. Family is very important to all of us.

If you mean you don't care what people post on facebook or twitter or instagram, then yes.

Pretty much, it’s what I notice when old dudes just go into Publix restrooms and absolutely destroy them.

Ehh, I was away 10 years in the military with my wife and kids. They could have afforded to come out and visit, but never did. Id see them when we came home though.
My MIL did a lot, but she passed away 3 years ago this month. It seems like yesterday though. She was a good woman and I miss her.
My parents are both good people just caught up in their own things I suppose. Also, dont really feel that family connection being gone so long and Ive always been pretty independent.
I hope my time with them increases, but I have tried and now its their turn. I was not trying to be disrespectful to OP or anyone else. If he misses his kids though, maybe he can travel, all i was suggesting.

Your feelings are completely normal. Ignore the comments about depression. You will still care about the important things, like family, close friends, retirement savings, and the like. You will care less and less about whether your shoes are good enough for work, whether you’ve worn that shirt already this week, do You Really need an F-350,, and other trivial matters. One day you will reach the promised land, where my wife and I are now, where your main concern is your first grand baby. Then you can truly relax knowing that all Is right in your world.

I stopped giving a damn a couple decades ago. It's amazing.

Im the same way basically. My older kids are in college, still have 2 at home but really dont care about anything anymore (which is probably a good thing).

When you stop living other people's lives and embrace yours. You got confidence and don't need approval

I'm kinda hitting that zone now. My youngest went off to college last month, and I've kinda stopped caring.
I don't care near as much as I used to about work, money, status, socializing, LSU football, my waistline, what's on TV (except GOT and Better Call Saul), and pretty much everything else that got me out of bed in the morning for most of my life.
I still like to look at hot women, though. But for not as long.
Oh, and I drink more.
Mid-Life Crisis.
Time for an affair and a Corvette.

I hear you. I still love to fish but a box full is not that important anymore. Enough to cook is fine. Instead of eating a quick lunch and back after them, sitting at the camp with some music and cold beer while cooking is the close of a perfect day. I no longer care or worry about about what someone else has or does as long as it does not hurt anyone. I notice the wonders of clouds, sunsets, and things I used to take for granted. Retirement is great.
