better hurry up. the next generations of fighters will probably be drones. Elon Musk had a great take on it saying the days of the jet fighter are coming to an end

Not even remotely true.
Lol, you guys get so butthurt over it and call it what you want. But that's a term coined by other pilots...

Right now both are hurting for pilots.
One thing about the Air Force is it is competitive and you may or may not end up in a fighter. You could end up flying a C-17 or other cargo plane as easily as a fighter.

Drones will replace fighter pilots in the next 10 years. Maybe the sme for the Airlines

Certainly you meant C-130s

i've got nothing but love for C-130s as well.
i suspect all of these people in here talking shite about cargo planes in the military have never met a cargo plane pilot or been around these planes. if i had my entire career to do over, i would probably try to become a C-130 pilot.

Do you mean AC-130?
Hell yeah.

I know a lot of fighters guys, mostly guard, that feel this way, being in a fighter squadron takes a ton of time, dedication, and a lot of the bosses discourage commuting to your guard job, which puts a little strain on the family if you have an airline job and want to be live at your domicile

Back during the Cold War I was in Air Force ROTC at LSU. I wanted to be an A-10 pilot. Passed the medical, went through basic training, passed ground school. At that time the Colonel picked only two ,out of 120,per year, to attend pilot school. I was not chosen. Then they tried to talk me into a missile silo with a Minuteman up in North Dakota. I did not want to be responsible for nuking a bunch of innocent people in Russia so I switched over to the Army a built bridges and roads on bases. Point is : have a back up plan and a plan C.

All I know is whatever you do, don’t think.

A lot of commercial airline pilots are ex-military.
It’s the most economical route to get the 1000+ hours of flight time and training needed to fly for the majors

They are newer than when I was in. My son is on one way too often for various deployments. They are a great aircraft. I want him to have to slum a 14 hour flight in a C-130 to know real suffering.

I would imagine the F-22 program is very competitive
Uhhh, yeah. They only ever built 187 production models. I'd bet there are under 100 aircraft at any one time that are actually operational or "mission-ready".
So you would have to be one of the lucky 100 or so people who would be able to fly a mission in an F22.

-Don’t pick a path based on what you perceive to be easier.
-Don’t go to the military unless you want to be an officer. No guarantees that you’ll get an F-22 or even a fighter at all. If you get into pilot training, just enjoy what you’re flying whether that’s in pilot training or after.
-Don’t take advice from internet randoms (including myself) as the gospel. Plenty of sources can give you reliable info (especially nowadays for military flying).
-Addendum to the above…don’t self-eliminate based on what you read online.
Good luck!

Becoming a fighter pilot in any branch is probably the hardest thing a person could do. Medical school has better odds.
Becoming a major airline pilot is way more likely because all you need is time and money.

Meanwhile, manned Eagles and Hornets (not even 5th gen fighters) are scoring air to air kills against Houthi drones.
I’m certain Elon will be correct on this eventually but I don’t think that will be any time soon.

I hate the shite out of 130s, too many uncomfortable hours on them. C-130s suck, C-17s are a dream (to ride in, I don't know the MX end of either).
