Is it just me or do these new SMART HOME products creep you out?

All of this seems to be just an elaborate race between Google and Amazon to store household data. None of this stuff is particularly innovative or exciting, but people must be buying the crap out of it because it's everywhere.
They're selling smart outlets, smart light switches/dimmers, smart motion sensors, smart air conditioners, smart sound speakers, etc. Who buys all this crap??

Lol or money because people are gullible to have the best/most recent products.

Those folks can’t respond to this thread. Power is out and their homes are dead.

I’ll never have one in my house. Sad thing is, our smartphones and computers have been doing this for a lot longer. They’re watching us now as we communicate on an LSU football message board.
I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but if you don’t think big tech and the government aren’t working together, then you’re a moron.
In a way, the terrorists did win. Patriot Act, government spying... sad times.
The younger generation gets a lot of grief, but I think that at least some of them are realizing, and they know they should exist offline.

I haven’t even hooked my smart TV up to the Internet. I don’t trust our government.

Love my automation system. Allows me to control everything in my house with one streamlined system. One remote in my living room works everything. Same in my bedroom. Makes a bunch of different devices work in perfect harmony. Love that it takes all these media services and puts it into one simple system.
Now I don’t have amazon or google in my house either and I would never ever stick a camera inside my house that is connected to the internet. That’s just silly.
5G is only going to make this worse. Everything will be connected in the future.

IOT Internet Of Things
This is where we are headed. Everything.....And I mean, everything will be interfaced. There is still some issues with figuring out the software or what will be the basis for it. They just haven't figured out how to full intergrate and implement it. Imagine the battle between VHS/Beta Max , HD Dvd/BluRay, etc. This will jump leaps and bounds with in the next 10+ years. Fyi, I would never want a smart home. We are spoiled and lazy as it is as a society.

They’re gathering data on you no matter what, I might as well be able to voice control shite and at least get something out of it
ETA: for the downvoters if you have a smart phone they’re collecting your location data, your shopping preferences, your emails and probably listening through the mic. You really think not having fricking smart plug or thermostat is keeping you “off the grid”?

I love my smart lights and doorbell, it’s great to have my kids see who is at the front door.
I think it’s great people think anyone gives a shite about you specifically? What makes you so special you think anyone is tracking your personal info? Sure if I was worth $10 mil plus I probably would be careful with certain tech where I work and deal with money. Outside of that, you think anyone gives a damn about your normal suburbia life?

The irony is that the FBI warned against smart tv's.
I wonder who was fired for that?

They are archiving everything and when they want you, they get a warrant for the stored data, build relational maps of who you interacted with and go get ya.
Further assisting them by allowing Alexa and Siri to gather all that transpires in your house is pure idiocy.

Not tying to sound like a dick. But what are you honestly afraid of?
I have smart speakers in each room in the house and smart lightbulbs to all the lamps. It’s nice to be able to rock my child to sleep and read him a book then without getting having to get up and disturb him I’m able to turn the lights off with just a simple “hey google turn off light”

There are articles where Ring systems have been hacked and some rando somewhere in the world was spying on a 8 year old girl.
Connected homes are stupid.

Seriously, why are Americans allowing others gather data on them without real consent?
I know that when we set up these devices, you have to tap the "agree" button to allow the thing to work, but I'm 99% sure if Americans could choose between allowing companies/government to gather data on them, track location on them ,etc. or not allowing gathering, they'd choose the latter
