Some of these people prefer anxiety and drama over peace and tranquility. They repeatedly make decisions and surround themselves with people that make them anxious and stressed. Those are the ones you see on Facebook saying how much they hate it. They get positive attention, which reinforces their behavior.

Just a question/observation I've had. How many people that you know who have anxiety are active or workout out regularly?

Still gets me somewhat. Been worse over the past few months while I couldn't do my normal running/workout routine d/t stress reaction in the shin. Stinks. Hoping when my downtime is up next weekend that things will be better when I can get back to "somewhat normal" activity wise.

You need to find some different women to be around. I only know one woman with anxiety issues and she's a secretary in my office.

I gots it. More related to health anxiety. Hew pain in my side that lasts for a little while, head hurts in a place it's never hurt before, pains in the chest area.....gets my brain all riled up. It's not...."hmm, wonder what that was." It's "oh frick shite. Got cancer or about to have a stroke". It kinda popped up out of nowhere a couple of years ago as I was growing out of "healthy young man" into "oh, people from my senior class are starting to die off".

I get it under control, deal with it. I don't bitch about it on Facebook.

I'll throw in my 2 cents. I have had some problems with depression. If these drama queens knew what anxiety really is they would call their little episodes something else. The few I know that pulled that shite don't exhibit the REAL traits of anxiety.

Anxiety is a bitch. Thankfully there are meds for it. It hit me so hard so fast they didn't even suggest any other options. They have even had to increase the dosage a little since the beginning.

Very regularly.

When it first got me I had a full blown panic attack at a fricking driving range!! I can think of nothing more relaxing yet there I was. I left a bucket of golf balls in the tee box and walked to my car.

It's not so much a "get over it " thing when it is full blown. Think of how you feel when someone jumps behind you and yells "BOO", and really gets you. There is a 1-2 second oh shite moment. Anxiety is dreading that moment for no reason, and full blown panic is having the exact same sensation, but it lasts a full 45 seconds to a minute. Try to imagine that? Your mind tries to process it. Then you over evaluate every sensation in that moment.

Can't breathe? I'm dying.

Head spinning? I'm having a stroke.

Heart rate goes up? Heart attack.

Nausea? Cancer.

Most people, especially guys (me included) dismiss it. "Only bitches and pussies get that!" Then go on chasing their tails for symptoms for about 6 months. Until they finally give up and get help or in some cases it does go away on its own.

Situational anxiety is different. You come home and your wife tells you she has a lump on her breast, you should feel anxiety. It's called being alive. But if you have the same sensations trying to pick dinner on a Thursday, its anxiety.

Good for you to all the John Wayne's out there who haven't had issues. I sincerely hope you go the rest of your lives without it. But I will never judge anybody with a panic attack again. I WILL judge who I see in the hospital for the 4th time for some vague shite, and we tell them "anxiety", and they dismiss it.

25% of American women are being treated for some sort of mental condition.

That means at 75% of American women go untreated.

I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder 10 years ago.

Most of my family and none of my coworkers know about it.

I heart Lexapro...

If you have a true anxiety disorder, it can really mess with you. I have some pretty bad anxiety sometimes. If it's something I feel coming on, I can usually handle it with deep breathing and relaxation techniques. If it hits me at 3:00 am and is a full-blown panic attack I have meds that help.

It is better if I watch my diet and exercise regularly.

OCD in my opinion is worse than depression and anxiety.

You have no idea. Try living with a person who has extreme anxiety, that triggers OCD. And needs medicine to even function as a human being. It takes a lot not to flip out when I hear the same thing a thousand times in 5 minutes.

I've learned to loath people who use anxiety, depression, and stuff like that as a means to get meds and stuff when they don't need it.

I have. Everytime we get together or try to discuss anything serious he just can't deal becasue his anxiety is just too much. He's 24 and still lives with his parents, flunked out college and is in debt up to his eyeballs.

ETA: He really does have anxiety issues. He was pretty normal up until his sister was killed in a car accident. He's had to deal with a lot.

Perhaps people 50 or 75 years ago just didn’t talk about depression, and didn’t seek treatment for it (after all, effective treatments weren’t exactly available back then). Maybe people today are more willing to admit to their depression, and that’s why it looks like everyone is so stressed out and depressed.

also i've seen multiple threads on here of male posters discussing their anxiety/depression and treatments

I'm a male in my mid twenties, recently graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering and am stressed out of my mind about finding a career. On top of that, I'm getting married in June which adds an additional level of stress to my situation. This stress often leads to running thoughts and an overall feeling of hopelessness. I believe that is anxiety and I don't wish it upon anyone. Thankfully I can trace my symptoms to a root cause. I feel terrible for anyone experienceing these symptoms seemingly for no reason. Diet, exercise, healthy hobbies, and meditation help me. Best of luck to anyone dealing with stress/anxiety.

It's always been common for women (and men) to seek medical treatment for anxiety. It's just now socially acceptable to tell complete strangers about it.
