I don't want to hear this shite. When I took my first job out of college, I had to go back to working in the fast food industry on top of my job just to live. Yes some of these kids are unrealistic, but people should be able to buy housing on their second promotion.

It's a free market with two sides, not a unilateral decision on how a skillset should be valued. That sounds like communism.

You sound like an older person probably in their 50s or 60s. Things are not the same as they were back in your day. You can't get established in a particular field when the starting pay is so low that you can't even afford a place to live and a car.

Buy a trailer, save on rent, sell and get back most of your money when you advance and income grows.

people didn't have an issue with this when housing "was affordable." They lived in tenements, trailers, 900 sq foot homes. Familes have shrunken, homes have grown exponentially.

If we want 1950's style home ownership, expand the base of affordable housing and zoning including tiny homes and mobile homes. Maybe its time people get over the stigma.

Gen Z will likely be a semi-insane generation, but this salary thing is going to continue to be a problem when that $15 is quickly turning into about $3 an hour worth of spending power. I think large corporations are very aware of this which is why they are all in on wide open southern borders and increased federal benefits for illegals. These kids are about to get replaced.

my starting wages at the company I'm at were at poverty level, especially since I was initially assigned to NYC, I had the patience and foresight, and sense of delayed gratification to realize that this job, in just a few short years would turn into a lucrative, high paying gig with excellent retirement and benefits, 38 years later it has exceeded all of my wildest projections

We're filling a position that was previously held by a 22 yr old guy who had no degree or experience. He still lived at home. He showed up late all the time, called in "sick" often, yet complained that he never had enough time saved up for vacation (b/c when he called in sick, his PTO was used until he had none left and then the company allows you to go negative up to 40hrs).

He did buy that $1500 folding Samsung phone, bought a Subaru WRX that he then modded to no end, and spent $10+ for lunch everyday at fast food places.

We finally let him go when he no called no showed twice. He called in to inquire about his last paycheck, but I'm pretty sure he owed the company money based on his borrowing of PTO time.

If he'd have been a good employee, he'd have been promoted within the year.

And on average, still 40% stronger than starting wages today…..

I own my own handyman business because I was tired of accepting ridiculous wages. There's also this thing where people believe that all Mexicans and illegal immigrants are good workers. This is 100% false and actually quite the opposite. It took me over a year to find a reliable Mexican sub that does good work.

see my response to these responses, that's exactly the situation I was in, you have to prioritize, be resourceful, innovative, budget, and delay gratification, everyone has to play the cards they are dealt

The gig economy will replace traditional work for a lot of young people. I think its a good thing as long as they can be self sufficient, which I have doubts.
