Is dry needling quackery like chiropractors?

Reading a few articles about it, they use a lot words that sound good but have no medical definition. It seems like something you could get your "degree" in by going to a few classes in a shopping center

yes
don't do it
if you have pain you'd like to try to relieve without drugs go to an MD that practices acupuncture

I’ve done it and it absolutely helped when I had terribly painful knots in my shoulder blades.
ETA: I see the guy who does it for the LSU athletes.

Dry needling is the tits. LSU has a specialist that comes do it for all the athletes. I'm sure it's mainly quackery though.

What's the difference between acupuncture and dry needling?

Nope. Works. I was highly skeptical, but it relieved my back pain.

I find it's helped relieve knots in my calves that were causing some injuries. I hate it though. It's not exactly painful, but it's uncomfortable.

It really works well for tight muscles. Go to a PT and have them do it. It will have you feeling great after just one session. It is not quackery. Going to school for years to learn how to crack a neck is quackery.

You don’t know pain until you’ve had scar tissue scraped.

It is a legit medical treatment usually done by physical therapist,

I've had the graston technique done on my achilles. That's not fun.
Funny thing is it's a sports chiro doing all of these things (dry needle, graston, ART, and suction cupping). It's worked. I went from pain, to running a half marathon distance two days ago followed by 8 miles today with no soreness. All in about 7-8 weeks. Pretty quick recovery overall while still keeping up a training workload.

It works. I was highly skeptical but now I get it twice a week. It makes a world of difference.

Acupuncture is eastern medicine and more homeopathic. They may stick a needle in your forehead for pain in your ankle.
Dry needling is more directed, if you have low back pain then those needles are gonna go in an around your back. To add to that, when I had it done, my PT also hooked up electrodes to the needles and had stem shock go through the needles. It was the shiznit.

I've had dry needling done in my neck/shoulder area, calves and hips (with electrical stimulation). It definitely helps if your muscles are tight and knotted.
I've had the graston technique done there too. That shite hurts like a MFer until it doesn't anymore and feels good. Dry needling doesn't hurt, it just feels odd.
All done by a physical therapist.

Dry needling compares to physical therapy.
Acupuncture compares to chiropractics.

No, it’s badass. Got it done on a back spasm and was doing back squats the next day no problem

I've never heard of it, so I'm going with yes.

I had never heard of it until Sunday and now I’ve heard two friends have had it today. Then see this thread.
Amazing.
