re: Is drinking beer on the way home trashy?

In the late 70's and early 80's I drank beer on the way home from hauling hay. Stopped at the first place we came to, and bought it. Sometimes it would be a juke joint in the country. We had to buy our beer from bootleggers on Sundays back then.

It was a much different time. Drinking & driving, and date rape, were the rage!

Not at all. I used to drink a tall can of Bud on the way home every day,

I've done it. A Miller light from downtown BR down river road ain't gonna cause problems. Usually no music, I like the silence before walking into the 3 ring circus at home.

However, I will never do it if I picked up my daughter from daycare. I can wait till I get home.

I recall standing outside a country store in the middle of the Saline watermelon fields area on a hot summer day circa 1978. No other store for miles.

A Monte Carlo was zipping by and suddenly locked up the brakes and slid to a loud and smoky stop. Slammed it in reverse and burned rubber back to the store.

Some young men got out. Driver said, “I saw that ‘cold beer’ sign and had to have some. We haven’t seen another damned thing for miles.”
