I held off my post about Delaware waiting for yours. I have no experience of it besides I95, but you never meet anyone from Delaware. It's almost like the state is a total fabrication.

I lived there for 3 years and was engaged to a girl who was from there. Thankfully, that engagement was broken off.

ETA: Like I said, they never leave.

Chicago has gotten so much worse since it lost its best community organizer in 2008.

Barry will be back there in a few months and he is bringing a whole lot of "Hope & Change".

I've always wondered why all the Dems on the north side of Chicago aren't redistributing their personal wealth to those in need on the south side? Seems like they'd want everyone to be in the middle?

Yeah, I live in Old Town, too, and I can't say that I've ever felt unsafe.

That being said, the immediate area around Sedgwick Brown / Purple Line Station can get a bit sketchy after sunset.

Similarly, the immediate area around Clark/Division Red Line Station is not the most friendly area, either.

Outside of those pockets, though, Old Town is relatively harmless.

Southside Chicago is rough, other parts of the city are really nice

The immediate southside of Chicago is not terrible, but as you get further south into Englewood, Fuller Park, Washington Park, etc., it gets pretty violent.

That being said, many people do not realize that the westside of Chicago has some very dangerous areas as well. Can't say I would ever feel safe east or west of Garfield Park, Lawndale, or west of Humboldt Park.

ETA: The far northside near Loyola (Chicago) in Rogers Park isn't a totally unsafe area, but the university warns many of its students about gang activity.

Not really. It's segregated pretty well. Unlike New Orleans where you got thugs living a 2 minute walk away from pretty expensive homes and neighborhoods

Lol it's kind of true, around the burbs where I live on the north side we're mostly conservative it's more the Gold Coast folk that claim this horrible divide in wealth among Chicago citizens but won't reach into their pockets to help while sitting 40 floors up sipping fine wine. I get they worked for what they have but don't go to pride and be all RAH RAH if you aren't going to help.

Can't speak for NYC but LA has done a decent job at making south central a safer place

South Central is like night and day even compared to a few years ago when I lived there. It's actually amazing. Inglewood is next.

Friend that lives there claims it's more the Mexican gangs. For a town it's size, the activity is incredible.

Marshall Fields isn't great, for sure. I walk past there all the time. It's weird to see an abject slum with $2+ million dollar homes just a block away in every direction. I think that area around Clark/Division is leftover from the Cabrini days.

Chicago is pretty predictable gentrification-wise. You can basically follow the train lines as you go out from the Loop, and that's where all the gentrification is occurring. I'd bet that Garfield Park starts gentrifying within five to ten years. OTOH, you won't ever see North Austin anything approaching nice while I am alive.

I don't have doubts about your biker presumption though. Lots of sketchy meth dealers in Riverside County.

I live in Lakeview, and we've had a disturbing rise in crime this year. Thug POS's take the red line up to the Wrigleyville/Boystown area and prey on drunk people leaving the bars. Most of the robberies occur in that 2-4am time frame, but there have also been a number of reported break ins in the area as well, and alleyway robberies at night. Tom Tunney is a shitty alderman and gives zero fricks.

Are Winnetka, Kenilworth, Glencoe, Highland Park and surrounding areas considered conservative/liberal/mixed?

Dang. What is Delaware like?

Most of Delaware is nice. I think Wilmington sucks, but other then that its a nice enough area.

I've been to Chester and my brother worked night shift there at one of the distrubution plants. In its hey day it was probably a nice city because they had shipyards there at one point. I think they have long since moved the building of ships overseas.
