I agree with you. All of these people who are slamming Starkville could not have possibly been there in the past 10 years. The OP asked about ranking in terms of raising a family. In my opinion, Starkville is a great, safe place to raise a family.

Thank you. The only people who still clown on Starkville have never been or went once 25 years ago

I don’t live there but Starkville nowadays isn’t half bad. Safe, very little traffic, good restaurants, decent schools (private school is solid, public is getting better), you have 2 outstanding golf courses 15 minutes away, great hunting land in surrounding area, regional airport close by for travel/trips, beautiful campus. Also, you $ goes further and can have a nice big house in a safe area for less than larger cities

I am not saying Starkville is now some top college town but it’s not a dump and you can find far worse places to raise a family.

I’ve been to every state and pretty much every city for work. Baton Rouge is my favorite place. Louisiana has a soul to it, a depth, the people are great and care about the friends and acquaintances. There is always something to do. We have at least one of everything. Traffic is nothing compared to La, Ny, Atlanta, Houston, DC etc etc. people complain because they haven’t lived in many other places. I have. I’ve also lived in many cites for a few weeks for work. Most people live in their city because they have to. I live in BR by choice.

You nailed it for me except replace Baton Rouge with New Orleans.

If you can afford private school and a good neighborhood South Louisiana is a great place to live. The culture here is something you get nowhere else.

The good areas are being surrounded by ghettos or turning ghetto. And the worst part is, the city show no signs of improvement or even a desire to improve. Sorry brother, but there isn't enough lipstick in the world to put on this pig to make it more attractive.

Usually what happens when people get elected who have no idea what they're doing or how to fix it. Don't have that now. Didn't have it with the last mayor and don't see it with this one.

Starkville would have to be the worst hands down.

BR is a shithole, but like others have alluded to, the people and culture make it better.

The area around Knoxville is beautiful, but Knoxville itself is a little bit of a dump - poorly developed and not aesthetically pleasing. I was there this weekend and was reminded of that.

Tuscaloosa is pretty bad outside of the campus. Same for Gainesville and Columbia SC. Athens is nice as is Columbia MO.

I’ve never been to Starkville, but College Station might be the worst one I’ve been to.

What makes Starkville the hands down worst of all SEC towns for raising a family?

When you have money, Baton Rouge isn’t a shithole. Money eliminates most of BR’s problems.

But it can’t fix the traffic

If you have helicopter money, it absolutely can.

Starkville.
Oxford is overrated

I went to State and lived in Oxford for eight years. I think Starkville is pretty boring. Oxford, man, I liked Oxford. I think it's a great town. Just hate Ole Miss. Very lucky they were mostly dogshit in my years there.

It’s in BFE Mississippi, so that’s pretty much a grand slam in the shvt city baseball game.

I’ll take Baton Rouge over Austin, TX and I’m being totally serious.

Well, it's has a large portion of the city breaking away to form a new municipality. But other than that right?

Yeah but even people who live in good areas like to go shopping or out to eat and when a area has a lot of Bad actors in it or near it those Bad actors end up in the shopping and dining areas

RiverOaks is Houston has issues shopping/dining spots

I know I would hate to live in a multi-million dollar mansion in CCLA, or Bocage, or Lakes around LSU. And eat at delicious restaurants from NOLA to LAF, and hunt and fish at the best spots in the world. And put my kids in awful schools like U-High, Episcopal, or Catlick High.

Do people really think that the coach and family are gonna be hanging out off of Plank Road?

wouldn't it be neat if you lived in a place where you didn't have to put your kids in private schools?
