I get the sense that America is the new Europe of the old days and Latin American and Africa are the last frontiers we have, where you can (essentially) do whatever you want, buy cheap land, and life the life you want away from governments or people getting in your business.

America is the new Europe, obviously we aren’t that bad, but it’s expensive, harder to get away from people, and you are never truly alone. Seems like the rural areas are crawling with police looking to bust you over the most minor offense. We have gotten too “developed” and we aren’t the Wild West anymore.

Am I the only one that has had this thought? I think about this multiple times a week.

No one ever says they want to take a boat to South America or Africa and settle the continent. No one.

until the government says, “man, nice house/ranch you built here. We’ll take it back now”.

Trust me , there’s times where I want to move to the south of Argentina or Chile and live on the ocean in a cool climate. Then I remember, the governments down there will gladly steal your land back.

Saved me a link. Most of the people on this board think of rural Louisiana when they think of "middle of nowhere" and haven't the faintest idea just how middle of fricking nowhere you can still manage in the continental US.

Alaska, West Texas, most of Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and the Dakotas still have large remote areas where you can be off the grid and left alone.

LINK
This is the only link that comes up and it’s kind of a special case. Looks like it was some nazi shite. I'm sure the US would do the same thing.
The fact this place even existed gives credence to my theory i think.

It is probably one of the best places to live so long as you are willing to give up all of your English culture lol. Definitely works well for them. They would likely not allow Americans to build this though!

There's also a lot of empty interior in Russia (and that's not counting the areas with permafrost). But who wants to speak Russian?

I’d rather just pay the $$ to live in North America or Europe than live on one of those other sh!thole continents.

Antarctica.

Only the coasts are explored.

The vast interior is still a great mystery.

For about the last 10,000 years or so, humankind has been becoming more and more urbanized. We call it "civilization".

You can blame agriculture.
