Europeans are retarded when it comes to air conditioning. If they have it, on full blast it's still 80 degrees inside. Then you order a cold drink and it has 3 ice cubes in it.

We have central heat. A 100 degree day with a window unit would objectively suck arse.

I've lived in homes with window units (two) that can maintain a cooler temp than most people here bitching about their units not being able to keep up.

Use fans in conjunction with whatever cooling source you have and you'll be much better off.

I grew up in a house in south louisiana with 1 window unit, no insulation in the walls. For the cold winter days we had space heaters for the winter and tried to stay on the area rugs since the house was elevated and I'm pretty sure the floors were connected to Antarctica.

People just whine about everything now. Myself included

After seeing this thread I texted one of my vendors in Aberdeen, UK. He said they are absolutely dying over there. He doesn't have AC in his house.

I hate weather shaming wherever it comes from. It’s so douchey too when a midwest person will be like “oh you think THIS is cold?” when in Louisiana in 30 deg weather. Yes, it’s still cold

How about without that window unit

One thing I’ve learned between hurricane power outages and ice storm outages is id rather be cold than hot in those situations

It gets hot and shitty in New Jersey this time of year.....EVERY year. I'll never understand why a lot of people there choose to buy houses without A/C.
I lived Morristown for over 10 years and a few of my neighbors did not have it....I did and they were always at my house from the beginning of August until Labor Day.

Cape May starts to look attractive about right now.

I think relative to the Deep South the period of time that requires AC is short. The northeast does get hot but also has more well defined seasons. Summer in south LA runs from May to mid October.

Until I was 13, we just had an attic fan, not even a window unit. Schools didn't have AC either.

Morristown is a beautiful area, used to have a client there and visited often.

I understand the homes not having central A/C but it does get hot every summer, why people don't buy at least a window unit or two, I will never understand. You can get a decent one for $200, even if you only use it one month out of the year, it's worth it to not be miserable in a puddle of your own sweat.

As for London, sure take special care of the elderly/infirm but everyone else can take a cold shower, sit in front of a fan and spray themselves with a mister bottle. It's a very short-lived heat wave, would have much more sympathy if it continued past a week.

I don't recall the school I started at having AC but that was only 1st grade and I may not have noticed. 2nd grade had me in a shiny new school that just opened and it definitely had AC. There were PTACs (hotel style AC/Heater units) in each classroom.

Where did you grow up Roger? Can't recall if we are the same age, I'm 60.

English weather is like Louisiana weather.

Don’t like it? Wait 10 minutes.

Being an island with a giant tidal river running through the main city gives it a lot of weird weather on a regular basis.

Areas like northern England, Scotland, etc? Enough cold and snow to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.

I’m going to be pissed if my upcoming vacation to the upper Midwest isn’t the refreshing break from the heat i’m planning for it to be.

In this thread will be a lot of fat fricks who keep their AC on 67 and that only go outside in the summer to get in their truck calling people pussies because it won't get below 80 in their house

Hot air rises, Mingo. Little people don't feel the effects as much as average height people.

There's a ton of houses here in Jersey that don't have central air. It's been in the 80s and 90s for weeks now, I can't imagine it's very comfortable for alot of people.

This highlights again how weather is all about perspective, and the fact that many of us have been conditioned to believe that every time it gets hot it is some groundbreaking event.

New Jersey has seen a rather normal July and a below normal June. The Normal temperature for the area in July is 86.5°. The average daily temperature in the area through the first eighteen days of this July is 86.9°. The month of June was below normal (81.9°) with a 79.4° average.
