Took my kids here Sunday afternoon as it was nice and sunny like it has been just about every day of the “winter”(about 5 Miles from my house). I’ll take a few crazies for this in February. Iowa can have their number one ranking.

So of the top 10 best places, here is their corresponding white percentages and black percentages of total population. This is not to be racist, it is just a very, very interesting statistic. And it is not what you'd think it would be.

So first rank on left = rank of best place to live
Second rank from left = rank of % white people
Third rank from left = rank of % black people

Top ten states
#1 Iowa (#5W) (#38B)
#2 Minnesota (#15) (#30)
#3 Utah (#12) (#49)
#4 North Dakota (#8) (#41)
#5 New Hampshire (#4) (#47)
#6 Washington (#29) (#36)
#7 Nebraska (#14) (#33)
#8 Massachusetts (#25) (#27)
#9 Vermont (#2) (#48)
#10 Colorado (#21) (#35)

Vermont also has the lowest gun homicide rate despite being top 10 in gun ownership.

You're right. It only includes public schools, although I think other than the elite private schools or those with a special niche or reputation, most traditional private schools have a disproportionate representation by students from its state so it still provides a benefit.

Regardless here are Mississippi's detailed rankings across all metrics: Mississippi

Here are the rankings for higher education:

2-year college graduation rate--14th
4-year college graduation rate--32nd
Educational Attainment--47th
Low Debt at Graduation--30th
Tuition and Fees--13th

So while these are always arbitrary rankings, this ollection of metrics to seems rather limited, especially with no measure of quality itself included.

Florida, North Carolina and Georgia leading the South, as usual. Tennessee too, I guess.

Also, Colorado #1 in economy. That weed though...

SLC itself is plenty diverse, though, as LDS are less than 40% in SLC proper. I've had a grand total of 0 issues, and the general QoL is super high.

My kid got accept to University of Utah. Loved the city and area, but was a little concerned about fitting in with all the LDS folks out there. Heard it could be difficult.

I’ve experienced zero of the oppressing Mormon stuff. He’d be perfectly fine at U of U.

ETA: I work a block from Temple Square, and I don’t even notice it.

The area around the U, downtown, Sugarhouse are all perfectly fine. There are a lot of transplants now. A LOT. And it will be growing over the next few years with Adobe expanding its presence, an Amazon distribution center, and a variety of big tech startups popping up all over.

If that goes for high schools and below as well, that is probably a factor in Louisiana's ranking. We have to be high up on the list of the % of kids in private schools.
