If this is her second chance I'd guess she was far from an angel before this incident. May have something to do with why the DA brought charges. Being a juvenile her past record will likely not be revealed.

If she was trafficked as young as 15, I’m sure she likely had a record out of sheer survival.

In 2022, it would be ridiculously easy to track down this POS’s

June 2020 killing of 37-year-old Zachary Brooks of Des Moines

relatives, particularly in Iowa, they more than likely have priors out there themselves. Be a real shame if some hard-piping men paid them a visit, before Zachary Brooks’s associates pay them a visit. Either way, I’ve got a pretty good feeling that Mr. Brooks ill-gotten windfall will be extremely short lived.

She had a shitty public defender and took a plea deal. She should have gone to trial. No jury in the world would have convicted her.

It may not even be the case that the public defender is bad.

They simply don't have the resources or time to mount a proper defense b/c of insane case loads they are given.

They are often so high that it feels like public defenders are damn near purposely set up to fail.

If the roles were reversed no way the man would have been let off with probation and restitution. Although I do like the outcome.

Can’t. He has a right to defend himself against the charges. Seeing that he’s currently below ground, no dice.

The easiest response to this question is that his family’s version of decency is different than rational, normal humans’ senses.

If so, no wonder they spawned such a pos.

Money shows character.

Huh, gofundme allowing this when she pleaded, but clamps down when right wingers who are just accused of something try to start fundraisers.

I mean it’s good she is getting the money I agree with that, but gofundme is full of shite.

Laughable. I bet they have been cashing 8-10 checks a month for YEARS that they haven't done a damn thing to earn. This is nothing but a bigger check.

We owed dis!

The story gets weirder.

She escaped custody and violated her parole, removing her ankle bracelet after a string of warnings and cautions about her behavior in her supervised parole environment.

The young lady likely needs psychological help after her ordeal, but could be facing serving the full 20.

I would be really interested in knowing how the legal details played out here.

From my perspective, seems like she saw an opportunity to defend herself before he could do anything else to her. How the F did she end up getting prosecuted for murder in this situation?

Evidently the letter of the law was applied and there was nothing they could legally do about it

I think the judge said he regretted the decision but he was legally compelled to give her the fine

If someone murdered Hitler in his sleep, every prosecutor in America would charge said someone with murder just to try and look tough.
I’m so sick of our legal system.
