If you are online on social media two things are all over your feed. Dalton and Sako and the Florida cake pop.
The cake pop thing to me it's such a odd nonstory.

Delivery driver sees a cooler of treats labeled "Help yourself" he takes a cake pop and goes on. So many people leave it treats for delivery and letter carriers that I can see the confusion.

BUT it was a self serve bakery. He was supposed to pay. Bakery owner puts Amazon driver on blast and it goes viral. Not for the theft. It spread because the driver commented then paid for it explained the mistake and said the cake pop was really good.
Yet the bakery continued to call him a theif. So the internet being the internet went full mob. Destroyed the bakery sent delivery after unpaid delivery. Called cps and really went wild. The story spread and rather than call it a mistake the bakery kept their ground. It's textbook how not to run a business.

Anyway I'm always interested in how getting an internet mob often backfires.

The delivery driver now has 100k followers and built in games for his new ventures and the bakery is still being slammed and I wonder is it really worth trying to get the internet to mob for you over$4 if it can back fire like this?

article on it

First I’ve seen of it.

Sounds like a problem that took care of itself.

Am I old and out of touch because I have no clue who they are.

Now I have to research this on the company dime and it's all your fault.

Internet mobs are horrible, but at least they picked the right side this time. It was a perfectly reasonable mistake to make, then when informed, he apologized and paid. The business continuing to call him a thief is absurd. They should have invited him back for a photo op and “endorsement” and everyone would have come out a winner.

The bakery is in the wrong 1000% here.

First, their business model is stupid. Second, they got way too angry originally over it. Third, doubling down shows no self awareness or marketing sense. They could have told collabed and gone viral if they just used it as a way to promote their whacky business practice.

Doubling down and digging in against an internet frenzy is great for entertainment. In a few days they will be crying victim if they haven't already.

My theory is the entire dalton and sako thing is a long con by them to make a ton of money really quick. They are making $75k a day in revenue with the drama. I had seen a couple of their videos before. Didn't follow because it's just a redneck and some average black woman living in a WV holler but I'll admit they know how to make a soap opera.

Taking your petty grievance to the Internet is always a bad idea. The odds of it blowing up in your face is pretty much 100%

I agree. I sometimes get stiffed and it's for a lot of money each time. I've never once taken to social media. Though a Baton Rouge company that owes me $900 for some work i did on their FQ property may be the first.

Right. It was $4.
They killed their business over $4.
You have to pick your battles

good for them if they are able to monetize it.

i mean our society is slowing circling down the drain but might as well make some bank on the descent.

Based on the response by the bakery owners, they wouldn't have survived anyway.

People will do literally anything to become internet famous.

Sad sad world we live in. Self worship is the fastest growing form of worship.
