The freak out was glorious of people deleting their whole online footprint and shifting to signal or some other third party service because the Dems were about to start a purge and kill all dissenters.

Does anyone else remember the Rec.-----,----- series of forums?
I was on one for several years (a gardening forum) and I have met people at at meetings who I knew through that forum. Then a rather strange person showed up, of mixed gender , decided to attack and must have had 'friends' to generate that much junk, and the place went to 5% original content and 95% dreck.

Someone started an invitation only forum, mined the heck out of peoples' knowledge, then shut it down completely, no explanation, no nothing.

The evolution has been a sad thing to watch.

One of my favorite tropes on here is “eww reddit bad, now sit down and let me give you the lowdown on reddit.”

In fairness, speaking as someone who has spent a significant amount of time on forums since the early 2000s

Love me some TD but can you suggest some other forums that are worth checking out?

I’ve recently slowly re-engaged Reddit after a long hiatus…and was promptly suspended for saying all pit bulls should be exterminated…threatening violence was the reason.

Even our precious TD will eventually fall prey to overzealous moderation.

Maybe it already has.

Fond memories from early 2000's until now.

None of my friends got hooked on the message boards like I did.

I've never been a heavy poster. I've been more of a lurker than anything, but game threads and certain topics will trigger me to post.

It's crazy how much has changed since this journey began.

Facebook came out, and you had to request your college to be accepted in order to open an account. I got rid of mine over 10 years ago.

The only two things that have stood the test of time for me are Twitter/X and TigerDroppings.

I originally started on Hogville, but those communist bastards banned me after I made a sarcastic remark about a Razorback baseball player that could NOT hit an off speed pitch. There was no warning or anything, just instant ban.

Which makes me appreciate this message board even more. FREEDOM!!!!

TD is the last forum on my dance card. Unfortunately, with the rise of social media and live chat apps like Discord, forums are a bit of a dying breed. But, I would suggest if you have any other interests or hobbies, just google that hobby and “forum” or “message board” and see if you get any hits that look good.

Some moderators certainly shouldn't be moderators however.

100% However the TD moderator union is so strong that once you're in, its almost impossible to be fired.

Not to much has changed over a quarter+ century, but overall people less aggressive then they use to be.

Would like to know the true story as to what happened with Q threads wiped across all platforms.

One footnote in history is how off the rails shite would get on the al.com forums. Anytime something would get linked from there you knew it was gonna be good.

I helped run a forum for sports video games way back in the day. Had to deal with a ton of smartass kids. I created a hidden forum category called "Jail." When a user was banned they only had access to this and was read/write only for mods/admins and banned users. It was a blast, banned users could complain about bans, we got to make fun of banned users and then the banned users would start attacking other banned users.

This is a great ideal. I just suggested using the same format in two forums I moderate. I wish you could that in FB groups.

Like the Poli Board

Poli Board is the biggest circle jerk. Not only is it suoer conservative, but it's their very niche narrow view of conservatism. You're basically a "libcuck" if you're not some overweight retired plant worker from Ascension Parish.

Every message board I have ever been on, no matter the subject, 100% the subject was always that "It just is not as good as it used to be here".

Every time. Man, this place was great 15, 10, 5 years ago, etc. It is always the same. You are never on a message board when it is at its peak. The peak is always in the past. If you were on a message board the year after its inception in the late 90's, the talk would be, man, it will never be as good as it was 6 months ago.

Peak Message board = Current date minus (span of time)

The food board is the best board here. The poli board is the most fun.
