Y’all think those B-52’s fly from Bossier City to Afghanistan for a mission and then on to Diego Garcia all by themselves? If you are a military doc you just call this a “stimulant prescription.”

I pulled convoy security missions in a Gun Truck for 3 days at a time in Afghanistan. I was smoking cigarettes, popping diet pills, drinking Rip Its and eating pop tarts to stay awake as Gun Truck Commander.

Pretty much this, but with a much more reasonable adderall dosage. I've probably consumed (via insufflation) 5 adderall since discovering cannabis 20 years ago. I'll gladly take the short term memory interference over not sleeping and force feeding myself.

I remember smoking crystal meth for a few months when I was a teenager. With a pipe, and also just freebasing it off of some tin foil.

The come down (along with the gutter trash you meet) is seriously the worst thing ever. I just stopped one night and never wanted it do it ever again. That was almost 20 years ago.

I took some Desoxyn one night when I went flounder gigging. I marched from Belle Pass to Caminada Pass in the water. Lost about 10 pounds that night and was still rolling when the sun came up.

You can take it for years and quit cold Turkey, only symptoms you experience is that you aren't as mentally sharp and energized as you were while on it. There aren't withdrawals or cravings for it.

From personal experience, that is 100% untrue. Not only do you suffer mental cravings, but if you've taken 20+ milligrams for years and quit you'll feel physically drained for about a month. You'll also be extremely unmotivated to do much of anything and can't shake the feeling with caffeine or other uppers.

Some of you act about 12 years old. Anyone that ever used meth recreationally is a cretin so there's that.

I merely brought up something about that war I did not know. A couple of you intelligently posted on the subject and have the mental capability to carry on a conversation and you have my thanks.

I look forward to watching the rest of the series, it shows a lot of promise.

Yeah but you have to come down sometime....look at Hitler himself. You know damn well he was on God knows what. He went from a powerful speaker to a paranoid shadow at the end.

There's that famous last video of him sending kids out to be slaughtered by the Russians with his hand tremoring behind his back. Most theorize that it was Parkinson's but couldn't it have also been a physical symptom of drug withdrawal?

FWIW, I've taken 20th century war courses, a full semester course just about Hitler*, assorted US history classes, and have a Poli Sci degree. This is the first time I can remember hearing about this. I know they did all kinds of shite in the name of science/medicine. We didn't go that far but went a ways down that track with all the LSD (and other drug) experiments we did on our own soldiers.

ETA:* Had to include this event. On 9/11 I was a 6th year senior while my wife (then fiance) had graduated and moved into coaching D1 T&F down south. My elective computer class had a video project assigned and since I had everything that the computer lab I offered to help this cute blonde at my apartment. (NO BAWS, I was not trying to get some...despite the situation.) So see comes over and flips the hell out when she sees my books for that class... identifying herself as being Jewish (DGAF then or now.) I'm half German, had grand uncles in the war, and my grandfather's unit parachuted into Bastogne just before the Germans had pushed back the flanks and created the bulge. So an absolutely justified reason to be interested in that period of time in Germany. For some reason I felt the need to explain so I stated those reasons then gave her the floppy disc back and directed her arse to the lab with all the other idiots trying to figure the video editing out. Stupid girl went from someone willing to do 99% of the video editing to being triggered and almost failing the project.

A few months later I was drinking a case of beer during what became known as the Tuck Rule game. For dinne reason my drunk arse decided it would be a great night to go see a movie with someone. Thankfully the .25+ version of myself was rejected for a plethora of reasons. Now I look back and laugh at the whole situation.

I’m pretty sure Nazis scientists were trying to create super soldiers at some point using steroids and other drugs. A real life Captain America, but for the Nazis. A lot men died. The Nazis did a lot of weird shite.

This isn't news OP. Hitler also marched his army to death into Russia because they were all so high.

We were doing it to some degree too.

Saw an interesting show about gun trucks in Viet Nam. What kind of firepower did you have on those trucks?

Every single person is capable of way more than they could ever imagine. For good, or for bad.
