Police dept transporting an inmates to the parish jail and an inmate ends up ejected. LSP investigating. It seems like there’s more to the story, but I’ll let it play out before posting.

why are we wasting such resources on inmates attempting escapes?

Because Acadian can collect transport fees from the Parish. Money in the bank.

(Bogalusa, LA) August 5, 2025—Yesterday afternoon, an inmate was severely injured after attempting to escape from a moving inmate transport vehicle while travelling west on LA-10. He and two other inmates were in transit to the Washington Parish Jail after court appearances in Bogalusa earlier in the day. At some point, the inmate was able to exit the transport vehicle while moving. The initial call to WPSO dispatchers reports that a man in an orange jumpsuit was unconscious and lying in the road near the intersection of LA-10 and Choctaw Road. After responding to the scene, EMS personnel transported the inmate to Riverside Medical Center in Franklinton, LA, and he was subsequently airlifted to North Oaks Medical Center for further treatment, where he remains in critical condition.
At this time, it is unclear how the inmate was able to escape from the transport vehicle and how he sustained his injuries. The Louisiana State Police are currently investigating the incident, and more information will be provided once it becomes available.
Sounds like he got out, no one noticed, and the van kept going.
Or maybe he was pushed out....

Those vans are impossible to get out of for obvious reasons they don’t exactly have a handle inside for you to lift at your convenience. It’s locked from the outside, Beyond that your handcuffed, ankle cuffed & they’re connected by a locked box that restricts your movements nearly entirely other than being able to step a few inches at a time. BPD has a tendency of making examples out of inmates with attitudes, or that say things they don’t want to hear. Washington Parish Sheriffs office as well, Temper-mental CO’s & officers with chips on their shoulders that don’t like being reminded that they’re not nearly as TOUGH as they think they are. & they’re protected by a network of judges, prosecutors, immunity & favors that allow them the privilege to behave anyway they want too in the moment. Without consequences in most cases. As a trustee, I saw them take inmates into the visitation booths & beat them up, & when the inmate called home or attempted to tell what had been done to him, He conveniently was taken into insolation, no phone privileges, no commissary & the camera always conveniently either glitched at that exact moment, or was simply pointing the other way. It’s frightening to think how easily something could happen to you in their custody and they control the narrative.

That is an open stretch of road. If the driver wasn’t in on the escape he was probably doing the speed limit.

Facebook comments are saying he was 19 years old and arrested for simple battery a few days ago.
The locals are saying he didn't jump, but was beat down and left for dead in the middle of the road.
There's no way they wouldn't have heard a door or window open.

So whoever quoted this was a trustee meaning they were an inmate themselves. Not exactly a credible source. Besides its Bogalusa, that town died decades ago. Much of the people with money have either wised up and moved away or are elderly and whats left is a mini New Orleans crime and drug wise led by a criminal boy mayor that loves pulling the race card as much as possible. Whenever they shut that mill down will be the final nail in the coffin. Not sure why anyone would want to raise children in that shithole.

this sounds like a case for US Marshal Samuel Gerard.

Tell me again why courts aren’t on premises with the prisons?

Because as of my OP no official statement was made regarding our assumptions. Someone above has stated what it SOUNDS LIKE.
And don’t you tell me what to do. I thought this was America!

When I was 14 I used to do work at the Washington Parish Jail in Franklinton. My dad had a plumbing and electrical service business and the inmates were always stopping up the toilets and stuff. My dad and I would go back there, unattended by guards, get started, and then dad would leave to go on other service calls, and I’d replace the toilet or whatever those frickwads had damaged. He did this at least twice.
In retrospect I think my dad did that on purpose and probably had the guards on alert, but at the time I did not suspect that. It was not a comfortable feeling to say the least.

Because judges, clerks and lawyers want to be conveniently working in town, but the town leadership and citizens do not want the jail in town. Besides, jails are large and land outside of town is cheaper.
So there are separate structures which makes transport necessary. But teleconferencing might be an option.
