This morning on the interstate on the way to work, I was behind a BRPD unit who was behind a fricked up old Camry, riding on 4 donuts and no license plate. He eventually switched lanes and was on his way. No worse for wear.

Apparently in Baton Rouge, you don't need a license plate anymore. You can just drive wherever you want in whatever kind of car - road worthy or not. And there's no reprisal of any kind. It's just like you're in Mexico or a pirate town. Anything goes. Just in case you think you MAY become a target of sorts, just print out anything that looks remotely like a temp plate and tape it to the back window and then you're for sure safe. It can even be hand-drawn... who cares?

Why do I need a license plate or insurance, or a vehicle that rightfully belongs to me, if nobody else does?

This is some bullshite. It's time to bring back insurance checkpoints. There's surely nothing more evident of a lawless, police-devoid shithole town when people can just ride around in whatever the frick they want.

The last time I got pulled over for an expired inspection sticker I told the officer that I didn’t renew it bc it was a scam. I said that she didn’t pull me over bc of the condition of my vehicle. She agreed and let me go without a ticket

I should re-iterate: St George. In fact, maybe we have a chance of getting something done around here. BR's likely hopeless.

The officers determined that enforcing these things required more police officers and unfairly affected the poor and black communities. They cannot make money off of these people and these people cannot afford to fix their vehicles anyway. So you either take away their car and they cant get to work or pick up their kids or whatever they need to do or you let them drive their shitty car on the road and have everyone else get sued or pay for them when they get in a accident.

So then who is? It's BRPD. And it's obvious there isn't nearly enough of them since this isn't a priority anymore. Like literally AT ALL.

If you don't enforce this stuff, it becomes a norm. Once it becomes a norm, it's over. You can't put the genie back in the bottle.

So then what can be done? Anything? Is this just the way it is now?

In all fairness, it does seem very Louisiana-ish. Laissez le bon-temps rouler, babe. Who gives a frick?

Whats bullshite is Mexicans driving across the country in a fricked up vehicle with no plates and no insurance pulling 2 or 3 even more fricked up vehicles behind them while doing 55mph on the fricking interstate. Why do we just allow this?

Pretty sure you can just write "Don't worry bro" on a piece of paper and that suffices for a license plate here.

Do Louisiana cops not have cameras that scan for drivers with no insurance? Dallas cops had that in 2010 when I moved. They called them Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs).Most of the suburban areas around Dallas had them too.

The cops don't have to look to see if you have insurance. It shows up on their computer, they get an alert, and they stop you.

I want it all enforced. It pisses me off that half our state is uninsured. I am fine with checkpoints.
