Actually it is. I’ve seen quite a few on the Tesla Reddit subs complaining how their (what we consider) mildly damaged cars are totaled by insurance. It’s not just the battery that’s the issue. Many of the frame parts are extremely expensive to repair, so insurance doesn’t want to deal with it.

Other than individual commentary there is nothing to support that. Every “mildly” damaged car I’ve seen with this has a frick load of structural damage underneath that would wipe out the driveline of any ICE vehicle. And I mean this at a fleet level because I get to see all this and have IE reports on the Tesla ESS unit and its capacity. Side note, the thermal run away tests were fun.

The premium on my model 3 is about 20% higher than my Cayenne. I was a bit surprised when I first saw this, but I understand why.

Have you shopped that? My wife went from a 5 year old IS350 to a new Model 3 and ours went down. Also, once again at a fleet level, no one is charging anyone more when they start piling EVs in.

It is going to be like that until the market catches up with EVs. People are so angry at these things that they forget what supply and demand is

This whole EV push is crazy and nearly antithetical to the environmental agenda.
Fits right in with all the other insanity. Turning girls into boys, boys into girls, dogs into cats. Males dominating female sports and a baked potato is the president.

ICE vehicles are at least 10x more likely to catch fire than an EV.

Idk why you’re getting downvoted for stating something that is just a true statement.

I don’t mind companies making EVs, they seem fine for city driving. What I do mind is being forced to buy EVs. I do not want one, it does not cater to my needs. I don’t like the exploitation required with gatherings the raw materials. We already have enough issues with that as is.

Take that up with your politicians and not the tech or the owners. At least on this board, we all agree with organic adoption

Check out how much hotter they burn and how much more water it takes to extinguish those fires in EVs.

Just because you don't want to believe it doesn't make it a lie.

Would you like to make a wager?

Now we're moving on to how hot the fricking fire is? Christ, fellas, give the FUD a rest. It's a fire, it will destroy you and the vehicle. Does it matter if it's two thousand or three thousand degrees?

Your ICE vehicle is ten times more likely to catch fire. That's just the way it is. If you want to convince yourself that driving around with 20 gallons of shite that is created specifically to burn keeps you safe from fires, have at it.

Pretty sure the downvotes are because I said something negative about ICE.

An insurance company would be smart to promote only insurance for fuel based cars on cars and trucks.
That is if this is a big deal. I really am not sure this is the first time I’ve heard of this being an issue.

Let people know their premiums aren’t going to be high supporting “totaled” electric cars.

Not exactly the best of examples. If you smashed your car into the wall with the same amount of force, you'd likely be dead on impact.

but it is actually important just how hot and difficult a fire is. It quite literally could be the difference between life and death.

Plenty of ICE fires have been put out with an extinguisher in time to save the lives of it's occupants.

This has been going on since the Toyota Prius first came out. I have a body shop in the family and since the very first EV came to the shop anything dealing with the battery made the claim considered to be totaled! The Battery is worth more than the car

miles means nothing on electric cars, there is no engine so there is no engine or drivetrain wear. the only thing that matter with electric cars is the manufacture date of the battery, thats 60% of the cars total cost

Yeah, that is the point of the thread.

Provides individual commentary

fleet level

So not comparative to individual insurance rates at all.

If all you ICE drivers would quit crashing into EVs this would not be a problem.
