I don't understand the science of cooking crock pot recipes faster. Isn't the "low and slow" cooking method the reason it tastes good?
As someone already mentioned, pressure key. You can coarsely chop an onion, throw it in with some beef stock, and in an hour or so you'll have nothing left of the onion. Makes for great gravies.

My mother in law cooks almost everything in the smoker or on the barbecue with burners. Want me to ask her if you can borrow her balls?
I have a Weber grill, propane 8 shelf smoker and just got a Black Olive pellet fed grill.

I was just joking.
My MIL cooks outside about a hundred times more than I do.

Reminds me of this guy:

Instapot is a cool concept, but its not earth shattering like people say here.
It is a pressure cooker and then some. I wouldn't call it earth shattering to someone who already owns and uses a pressure cooker, but for others it is a foolproof way to get into pressure cooking. You cannot blow it up unless you're actively trying to do so. It is a huge plus to me that I can brown meat inside of it as well.
I bought it to cook rice, but I use it for roast so much that I bought a cheap rice cooker to cook rice on the side.
It is convenient, but that isn't to say that I don't enjoy cooking a roast or chili the traditional way with dozen or so beers while waiting.

this has been the case with pressure cookers for like 30 years.
I am not saying don't buy it, we have talked about it as our pressure cooker handle is breaking.

Yeah I know, but the fear still scares people away. My grandmother has an Instant Pot and still thinks she's one wrong move away from blowing up her kitchen.

As I asked eariler It doesn't look like it can't do anything my pressure cooker can do. Guess you give a pressure cooker a new name so it isn't as "scary" and all the sudden it's some glamorous new cooking tool. So basically you get a plug in pressure cooker with some buttons on the front that can go bad.

I ordered mine after 4:00 so I'm not getting it until Friday

I bought one from Amazon last year and it's pretty great as far as pressure cookers go.

I regret that I only have one downvote to give mj2 for his instapot ribs

Can your pressure cooker brown/sear meat, and saute veggies?
I have no idea, I never owned a pressure cooker. I used crock pot occasionally but hated that I had to brown meat separately before I added it to the pot. The fact that I can do this in one pot is one of the main reasons I bought one.

No. But does she have any extra skoal I can borrow?

I ordered one as well and was wondering the same thing. Does the saute function get hot enough to actually sear a roast? If it does, the time it will save will make it worth it.
Posted on 7/13/16 at 1:03 pm to Dale Gribble
The rice and saute settings were a big reason I was interested in it months ago. Once I saw everyone raving about the pressure cooking speed and reed, I bought it. I'm single, and need ways to cook good food easily. Restaurants are expensive in Boulder.

I'm not talking about the InstaPot. I know that supposedly can I'm talking about a pressure cooker in general. The guy asked what can the Instapot do that a regular pressure cooker can't. I'm wondering if browning meat is one thing, or if all pressure cookers can brown/sear?
