I truly wish all black neighborhoods were like this one. Glad these folks are doing well.

I thought federal government jobs didn’t pay well but offered good security and benefits. I guess that doesn’t apply to DC.

My understanding is that there are rich people in government but most of the really rich people in DC suburbs are more so lobbyists and NGOs that suck off the teet.

Fed employees make on average 27% less than their private sector counterparts doing the same job. Benefits are pretty good, but comparable to a Fortune 500 company. TSP (401k equivalent), health, dental, small pension. The retirement packages were overhauled in the 1980s to reflect what the private sector received. The CSRS retirees are all gone and retired now.

All that DC money is lobbyist and contractors, the Swamp.

TL;DW - secure government jobs purposely handed out to blacks and black-owned businesses built the foundation.

An important note: everyone interviewed was well-spoken (no ghetto-ese about "axin" questions) and took care of their properties. That indicates a more prevalent propensity for a professional mindset (which leads to more of a likelihood to more responsible personal behavior, as mentioned by the guy when he was talking about how his father would admonish him to not act up when they went to conferences and such).
