My experience was horrible with the post-op recovery.

1st thing though is I had double hernia repair, inguinal and umbilical at same time. But then they screwed up the DEA# on the pain meds prescription so I couldn't get a pill and barely remember the 1st 3 days after waking up. Plus mine was complicated by my chronic pancreatitis so I was puking and dry heaving in the viscous downward spiral of "so nauseated it hurt, and in so much pain it was nauseating".

Sooo...

At least yours will go better than mine. Just double check with pharmacy before exiting the hospital to be sure your meds are being worked on and not a problem.

Same situation, going in on 18th. I was advised to get on miralax a couple days prior to make stool passage easier.

I had it in 2017. Since I didn't have insurance at the time, I went to this doctor. It was a good experience, and the recovery was easy. I had to walk about a mile the next day, and the pain was tolerable.

After that, I occasionally had some weird feelings from the mesh for a month or two, but that was it.

The surgery is nothing. Don’t even waste time worrying about it. The first few days after will suck because of the gas they pump into you. There might be some soreness but not much more. Just take it easy for 6 weeks.

Having gone through it and a broken ankle requiring surgery, I much prefer the hernia surgery.

Failed the cough test one track season in high school with that kind of hernia. Had the surgery and was walking around that night. I think I had to wait a week to jog, and a few weeks more I was running and lifting light weights.

I was 16, so recovery was quick. The worst part was that big black nurse that shaved my balls before. Thank God she was quick cause I was startin to get a chubby.

I had bilateral surgery just 2 years ago & had nothing like all the pain described here. And, for better or worse, my balls' size never changed. I think the limit I was given on any lifting was 10 lbs, which is nothing. In 4-6 weeks I was good to go.

Yep, I had the same instructions. The Miralax is supposed not help you not strain as much. And it works. But wiping your butt and getting on/off the crapper was a challenge the first few days.

No ball cutting involved in hernia repair

They make an incision from your belly button and go in from there. You could drive home after but I doubt they let you.

Had surgery back in the late 90's for one. He cut me right where the leg meets the torso but on the ball side. Put a mesh in, took about 40 minutes with 1/2 that waiting on anesthesia. Next two days pretty tough, even just to sit up. Day three on my feet, and out the door. Six years later the hernia broke thru the mesh, had to have emergency surgery. Did the laproscopey thing this time and was on my feet the next day.

I had laparoscopic surgery a couple of weeks ago. Lower abs were sore for a couple of days (similar to after working out after a long lay off) after that I have had no pain to speak of. Occasionally I have a little discomfort at the incision sites, but that’s it. I never took anything stronger than Ibuprofen. Take a bunch of stool softeners so that you don’t have to strain when using the bathroom and you should be fine in a few days.

Not too bad, man. At all. Hurts to laugh, and you'll wanna eat easy to digest stuff. I wouldn't recommend beef jerky and stuff that'll plug you up. Eat light meals / soups / greens etc.

You'll be fine, man. Don't sweat it. We live in 2022. One area of medical efforts I WILL still praise is anesthetics and pain killers. For surgeries that aren't super invasive, we got it easy these days.

I'd tell you good luck, but you won't need it. It will just feel suuuuper sore and tender. Not a lot of real pain if you stay still.

Load up on audio books and shite like that, or td.com :)

Had it in college, take stool softener if you take a lot of pain meds, I didn’t do it. Biggest terd I have ever or will ever produced was born that day I finally let go. That wasn’t a pleasant time for me.

Besides that don’t remember much from recovery. Was easier than the septoplasty and turbinate reduction I just had a few weeks ago.

Nothing to be afraid of. I had a little, tiny incision that now looks like a tiny dot. Day 2 and 3 were painful but not awful. Vicodin helped. Miralax helped keep things moving. One thing they did not prepare me for is the weird internal itching feeling as the tissue grows over the mesh. Took about a month or two for it to stop.

I had the surgery several decades ago, the old style surgery with stitches. I was dreading the first crap afterwards, but they gave me Fleet laxative. Appropriate brand name, you have to be fleet getting to the toilet or else you'll shite the floor. No resistance at all, like pissing out your arse (which I was thankful for). One of the worst parts of the experience was I couldn't take a leak following the surgery (even after drinking coke and tea till my eyes were floating). That sometimes happens after anesthesia, so I had to be cathetered once. The first week following surgery I walked hunched over like an old man because it pulled the stitches and hurt to straighten up. After that it was all down hill.

The hype of the surgery is terrible, but the surgery and recovery is pretty easy. I had a double a couple years ago. Surgeon did nor prescribe pain meds, just advised to take 2 tylenol and 2 Advil's if needed pain relief. I did that the first 2 days.

Keep ice pack on the stomach area to decrease swelling and pain and plan to be very lazy for 2 days! Follow orders and DO NOT try to lift more than a milk jug for the 6 weeks after.

I thought I was feeling good after two days and went to do piddle in the garage and did not take long to get back on the couch. It takes more out of you to heal than you think but you do not have do anything but take it easy.
