Infectious disease expert Michael Osterholm on Monday contradicted President Donald Trump’s fanciful claim that the U.S. will soon be in “very good shape” with the coronavirus pandemic, instead predicting “an explosion” in new cases starting next month.

Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, told CNN’s Don Lemon that the U.S. is “just really beginning to get to the really large part of the problem” with an average of 45,000 to 50,000 new confirmed cases of the virus per day.

“When school starts both at the high school level and in college and universities, we think we’re going to see an explosion of cases in September that will far surpass what we saw after Memorial Day,” Osterholm said. “And that this is just going to continue increasing, getting higher and higher, in terms of numbers.”

Osterholm elaborated in an op-ed he wrote with Neel Kashkari, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, that was published in The New York Times on Friday. The column argued the U.S. needs another lockdown to slow the spread of the virus.

“We believe the choice is clear,” Osterholm and Kashkari wrote. “We can continue to allow the coronavirus to spread rapidly throughout the country or we can commit to a more restrictive lockdown, state by state, for up to six weeks to crush the spread of the virus to less than one new case per 100,000 people per day.”

“That’s the point at which we will be able to limit the increase in new cases through aggressive public health measures, just as other countries have done. But we’re a long way from there right now,” Osterholm and Kashkari acknowledged. “The imperative for this is clear because as a nation what we have done so far hasn’t worked.”

We are long past the point of the cure being worse than the virus

I’m starting to think a lot of the people that still want draconian lockdowns just don’t have a lot to lose to begin with and just don’t care that their policies are destroying livelihoods

I tested positive this morning so mark me down.
Kind of relieved to have it and get I out the way. I wish they would have just let it runs its course and be over with than dragging it out

Covid-19 has surpassed Barack Hussein Obama as the greatest hoax ever pulled on the American people.

Imagine a six week lockdown.

That's a long sentence to serve.

Do you really have to be an expert to know this is going to happen?

Systematic narcissism

That's the real problem with the left. They want to make everyone as miserable as themselves.

Just wear masks, just isolate for a while, flatten the curve, at home together, herd immunity, frick these dudes. Nothing they have said has been remotely accurate but these are the cock smokers catfish frickers like John Bell no-sack are basing their decisions on.

“Told CNN’s Don Lemon”

“Published in the New York Times”

Well then there’s no possible way THIS guy is biased.

Great thing about predicting a horrible event is, no one ever cares or remembers if you’re wrong.

The Louisiana Conference would actually be fun to watch. Obviously without LSU.

six weeks to crush the spread of the virus

It's to the point where Science isn't science anymore. It's political infected herpes. It's unbelievable how little common sense these people have spouting this bullsh!t. We have to just get through this as quickly as possible and stop trying to count every person with it. The spread means nothing. The deaths are what matters. Hospitalizations are important also. But this whole idea that you're going to crush anything just by sheltering in place is idiotic. How the f&ck does this guy think we're going to magically shelter EVERYONE in place for this long?

The good news is we won't have to worry about COVID, if everyone starves to death.

The only actual solutions are pretty simple.

1. Country wide lockdown for three weeks. Nothing open but hospitals. Everyone restricted indoors.

2. Herd immunity

I'm for either at this point. I'll sit 3 weeks at home if it means life is normal after. I'd prefer 3 though.
