In the real world, do you feel like there is any actual division right now?

I don't. I feel like it is business as usual. I work with several African Americans in my office. There is no tension.

I'm on a mini beach vacation. We have encountered many people of several different race. Nothing is different. Traveling, at the hotel, pool, beach, restaurants, bar; everything is normal.

Also, with the exception of the employees wearing masks, COVID scare is dead.

I have concluded that the media sucks. Or am I just in a bubble?

Agreed. Not even really discussing it anywhere I've been, either. I keep saying, it's the media and social media pushing fear and hate. Always has...

It’s not nearly as bad as being made out to be. That also applies to racism, it’s all BS.

No. Same with the divided nation crap we hear all the time. Someone has something to gain from trying to keep us at odds with each other. Hmm.

Nope.

Went out Friday and Saturday nights over the weekend with my family in town, and hardly a mask to be seen other than employees required to wear them.

The only real difference was that some bars/restaurants were doing outside seating only and the ones that were seating inside had a lot of tables blocked off. There was a long wait everywhere for dinner.

My office is having a meeting later today to decide what uniforms each side will wear in the Office Race War...

Ok no not really. Most of the office is of agreement that some cops are dickbags, the rioters are dickbags, and that there's nothing wrong with peaceful protest.

Oh, and everyone is in agreement that the people in Seattle are some seriously fricked up weird white people.

Mostly social media, but it is funny how when you read about wars, even civil wars over history how in the midst of it all people will go about their daily lives like very little is happening. Almost like the political conflicts are merely weather.

I work with a majority of blacks and no one is talking about and the ones who does mention it says that it has nothing to do with race which I agree with.

Political parties, BOTH PARTIES, have a vested interest in keeping the American public up in arms about the crisis of the day.

It’s been that way since Jon Adams and Thomas Jefferson.

You probably live in the south too. I’m in “racist arse West Monroe” and interact with whites, blacks, Indians, and Hispanics on a daily basis. We all get along great and treat each other with respect, as long as respect is given both ways.

All the racial tension is in liberal arse cities, not the “racist rural south”. Makes me wonder who the real racists really are

I think the cancel culture is very real....but you are correct that the racial animosity and distrust is mostly in social media and corporate news networks. Those are based on perception, not reality.

Nope, I get along with everyone, as I always have. When it’s brought up around friends, we all agree that it’s ridiculous and politically motivated.

If it wasn’t for the stupid news channels making it an issue and posters on here bringing it up every other post I wouldn’t have a clue any of this is going on.

There on extremes on both sides getting all the attention. For normal people it’s life as usual.

It seems like this racism is affecting only the most entitled and privileged black folks. Normal ones seem to be acting normal

I’ve always found blacks to be more friendly in exchanging pleasantries than whites (or any other race for that matter) and have noticed no change in that.

At the end of the day, we are all just trying to live our lives. Being kind to one another is the best way to combat racism or any other negative societal behaviors for that matter.

of course not

social media (and yes that includes TD) warps peoples perception of reality

even if you were to go to places where it seems tensions are really high, like Minneapolis or Seattle, I guarantee life is still quite normal for the vast majority of people and areas

I haven't seen it. I see it online when I check IG and FB. I deleted ESPN as they have been more like ESCNN.

My neighbors are nice, we wave and exchange pleasantries. Same for at the gym. Even when eating out, several people have held the door for me and I have done the same.

Remember this, what you see on social media and TV represents about .3 % of the population. The rest of us are paying attention, however, we are also very busy trying to earn ours and do what is best for ourselves and our families.

In the real world, the one where people are looking out only for themselves, their families, and friends, and just go to work everyday, no.
