Pit Barrel Cooker is cheap, idiot proof, and has very high capacity. I love mine.

Smoking meat (or grilling in general) is something I openly admit I’m no good at. It’s a serious deficiency in terms of my manliness. It’s shameful.

Yup.

To clarify: Cutco is overpriced and has no redeeming qualities.

BGE is overpriced, but there's no denying it does a great job.

I would prowl the Casinos and you'll find one.

Do you only want the ability to smoke meats? No grilling or searing?

The big trailer ones that cost $10k plus.

Best smoker for occasional back yard use is a diff. question.

I have a Pit Barrel Cooker and a Big Green Egg. For an intro I highly recommend the PBC. Has high capacity, and is very easy to use, especially for a beginner, and relatively cheap. My ribs come out fantastic every time I use it.

ETA: If I was in the market for a Kamado I'd get the Kamado Joe Big Joe II now over a XL BGE. But that's a hell of an investment.
